She had the intelligence, creativity and ability, if she didn't stab you in a vital organ

Several months ago I was walking in the path and I see this construction guy walking in the opposite direction. He had a construction hat with him, and a typical outfit that downtown construction guys are rocking.

As we were walking in this hallway towards each other, I saw him shoulder check some guy in a suit - deliberately. And I also saw two guys walking beside me notice this as well.

I was next in his path. I adjusted my course towards the middle right side of the hallway to avoid him - and he adjusted course as well! I pretended not to notice him but when he shouldered checked me I was ready and met him with resistance of my own.

A couple of words were exchanged as we were passed each other and he raised his hands like he was ready to fight. I just turned around and kept walking and I had an exchange with the two guys that witnessed the whole thing.

The thing that went through my mind was "this guy's in construction and he surely has a knife on him (for work), and he looks pissed, like he just got fired.", so i figured the guy has less to lose than I do, hence why I didn't have a battle to the death between First Canadian & the Scotiabank Plaza. But it reminded me... there could be more crazies lurking about and we're a hair's-length away from triggering something crazy.

you always need to be aware of your surroundings when you're downtown. not just re:knife wielding stabbers but just people in general. lots of people are fucking weird.

Werd up - with some of the headphone/bluetooth set ups it's nearly impossible to tell who's talking to actual living peeps and who's got a multiple personality/hotline to Jesus conference call in their own head going on live.

Odd that in the other random stabbing and murder of Mark Ernsting, the media focused on the victim with little attention to the man in custody.

happened right in front of my little Sisters house. pretty fucked up.

Yeah because no one knows when a wall street MBA type is going to attack you at shoppers because they had a bad day. Of course you're not looking.

The state of affairs in TO right now.

Then in the same day the Cancer researcher is murdered out for a walk by some thug.

Who's going to say he might have went on one day to cure cancer?

You're blaming construction workers for the issues then.

No.

I was merely detailing the scenario of the dickhead who was shoulder checking people in the underground. All of my construction buddies rock all sorts of gear during work. A knife is just one of them.

If a cunt in a suit was doing that I would have confronted him.

he's not wrong though. growing up in the city (flemo at that), it's like my 6th sense, i'm constantly assessing my environment (it doesn't mean I couldn't become a victim but my odds are probably less likely, but yeah if someone plunges a knife in my back in the line at starbucks, I'm screwed but again what are the odds?). it's not paranoia just an awareness, and it's not new. i'd say the city is far a safer then when i was a kid (proportionally speaking).

So the stabber died in police custody. Why aren't there any more details available about how that happened?

bit of both. Everyone seems to have an attitude where you constantly need to watch your back now. But In circumstances like the Shoppers, folks don't typically watch their backs, especially if it's an upstanding member of society type person who's attacking you.

If we have to consistently have to watch our backs with any perceived low to high society, might as well not even live in Toronto anymore.

So that's what I was referring to with the construction workers, too. Everyone seems super quick now to blame a type. Blame all types. Trust no one, is a lousy way to be.

I mean, the last thing I expect is to have to watch out for the guy at shoppers next to me in line, pulling something.

Just seems that this story brought the discussion out... Everyone's tied up with the disbelief an MBA finance graduate would do something like this.

it's not watch your back per say but rather BE AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS. If you see something that doesn't fit, like a person following you or hovering over something you are doing or just generally fixated on something or in your personal space then you should have a higher sense of awareness.

There are plenty of odd people with MBA's. Anyone can snap and it's usually people that can no longer handle the pressure they're subjected to. In her case I'm sure being unemployed off/on for 8 years, sleeping on couches of friends and hanging out in a coffee shop among who knows what else she had going on probably took a serious toll.

Qualifications are only part of the key to success, it's what you do and the effort you put forward that makes you successful. I met a former lawyer who was very successful, guess where I met him? A homeless shelter while I was volunteering, one day he had a breakdown and never recovered. This was a guy making 6 figures+ and had everything.

Well if You can become a high powered lawyer, and end up homeless. Or an MBA grad, who's killing folks.

Makes you think a bit.

It's like the 1% meltdowns are becoming the new social welfare cases.

What's going to happen to the rest of the 99%?

Food for thought. BTW I agree with everything you said..

thankfully, the stabber has been remanded until her next court appearance January 8th.

the victim was recently married, and wanted to start a family.
wrong place, wrong time. serious bad buzz.
this could have been anyone...someone you know.
