Hello funky internet people.

Dell has shipped it and it will arrive this week.

YaY.

Next comes the prep work to make it board-ready. Then transfering this board over to it, probably will happen next week.

I wore a turtleneck today: I'm feel like a Dell customer more and more each day.

I only own 1 turtleneck and it is grey in color. It is nice and warm.

Does Dell make a good server?
I want to get a server to host my own web site and I get a deal through Dell!

It should be much faster. I am also toying with the idea of moving the server to TO (it is in Edmonton now). Being closer to most of our members physically would make for a faster connection I think, all other things being equal.
Less nodes to go through.

Swenard, I did a lot of research and got a bunch of quotes and for a high velocity messageboard application Dell appears to be the top contender.

cool!

I haven't bgun to look at servers yet. but, I won't have to spend as much time doing it if you already have.Plus I get a few discounts with Dell plus they will take the payments off of my pay cheque interest free.

Go Compaq
Best engineered servers on the market as far as quality of hardware, design intuitiveness and just overall package.
I've worked on essentially all brands out there, and I like Compaq WAY more than Dell, IBM and HP.
This is assuming you're looking at investing some money though. :)

If it's just a project box, just build a decent machine and save some coin.

We have about 20 or so DELL Servers in our offices...
They are great for servers... I wouldn't recommend their desktops.

Compaq seem OK too.... HP is poop IMO... they make great Printers and that's about it :D

But like someone said, if it's just a box for yourself, go out and get a nice PC and set it up as a server...
DELL Servers aren't cheap.

As luck would have it, one of my best friends (and former TRIBE covergirl) Vera K's brother is like a famous prodigy with Linux and he is going to configure the box.

Is his name Linus by chance?
