I popped in a couple of times to this party (I was working across the street) so I thought I'd add my 2 cents. Fever was jammed and everyone seemed to be really excited. I'm not a huge breaks fan but the dj's (not sure who was playing when) had the place movin. I basically wanted to say that I was pretty impressed with Josh tha Funky 1. It really is fun to watch someone with that much skill working the decks. Anyway, props to 905ive for bringing in some exciting talent.

Wow :) I was so sweaty when I left Fever last nite from dancing non-stop to Jelo and Dekoze! Those two back to back were fucking wicked :D They pretty much made my night!

I didn't get a chance to see any other complete set..especially in the smaller room because it was SOO hot. Regardless though..I had a fun time :)

Holy mother of god! I haven't had that much fun in a looooooong time. Such good beats, such a good crowd. This is exactly why Fever is my favorite place to party nowdays.

j-red and switch were on when I showed up. They looked like they were having a really good time, and with good reason. Nice job from those two.

Then rectangle came on, and the whole room went nuts. Lots of people seemed really excitied about him showing up. Afterwards he spent like 5 minutes signing autographs. Personally I'm a little disappointed though.... what he played was basically a really boring run-of-the-mill hip hop set with lots of scratching. And the scratching -- while good from a technical point of view -- seemed a little formulaic, and lacked creativity. It almost seemed like rectangle was the only one in the whole club not having fun. Oh well.

The real surprise for me was Jelo and Deko-ze in the big room. I walked in there to see the two of them high up on the stage going absolutely nuts playing an all-out techno set. Imagine the energy those two usually have when they're spinning on their own, add it together, and multiply it by 10. Soooo good. Unfortunately I don't think a lot of people there realized what they were witnessing.... too bad. It was just retardedly good.

Josh the funky one was also impressive. Awesome combination of the funkiest house with some kick ass scratching (much better used than rectangle, if you ask me).

The place was still completely packed when I left at around 4. What a night....

Any excuse to road trip is fine with me but this tour to the Steel City was well worth it. I always seem to have a great time when I go to Hamilton. The club was nicely rammed and the low ceilings helped create a sticky sauna like affect. Warm Heineken is probably my only complaint, although I usually wouldn't complain about a warm Heine or two!

Rectangle was impressive with pitch variations, scratching, juggling and some nice blends. He played a lot of recognizable hip hop both old and new which I didn't mind at all.

Josh Da Funky One had the crowd shaking. A little too fast for my taste but I could appreciate his mixing and programming which were top notch. Man he went through a lot of wax.........this boy was tipping candles.

Rounded out the night kicking away my last bits of energy to the sounds of Big League Chu and Saddler. As always, holding it down proper with some early morning dance floor breaks, great way to end the night.

Thanks to Dawn for returning my beloved monkey, (long story.) My baby blue polyster tuxedo outfit is once again complete! Cheers to Uncle Bobby for the speedy and polite taxi service.........literally. See ya next time.

Whoa, ok, how come every time i walked into Jelo and Deko-ze they were playing shit to hard it was hardly appropriate to call it music?? Fucking hell, every time i came in, someone told me they had just dropped a funky dancable track or two, but were back to the insane pounding shit when i was in there. Not my cup of tea forsuuuure.

But hardly better were the hip hop anthems from Rectangle that i came to Hamilton to escape from. It was fun and all for a bit, but then you realize that I could be paying no cover, drinking cheap booze and going to some jock bar to hear that shit.

Josh Da Funky 1 was fucking sweeeeeet tho. Totally saved my night forsure. Some sweeeeet ass funky house that you coudln't help but shake your ass to.

Anyways, SOOoOOO good to see so many people out there. Leigh-Anne, spanks for the ride baby! Chris and Louie, -always- hilarious time (I gotta get becky's # offa one of you btw) ... Dave, Lori, Cri, Willar, Drea (sweet to finally meet you), and everyone else I hadn't seen in forever.... i want to make love to you all.

Annnnnd of course, my Joey.... once again our antics proved to be nutty, and I'm on my way to prove that you fucked up the bus schedual! Missed you lots even.

Yay.... fun night.

I was going to keep my mouth shut, but I can't hold back now.I was standing right behind Rectangle for most of his set, and if that scratching was subpar than I must be crazy. And anyone who actually has listened to Rectangle other than battlwax would know that that is the exact style he plays. The crowd in front of him did not seem to mind as you heard the crowd chant Eazy-E for an encore. This is just my personal opinion I have been a Rectangle fan for well over 7yrs now. It's unfortunate that not everyone enjoyed him like myself.Otherwise thanks to everyone for coming out and we hope to see you next week for Breakin the Gender Barrier, With an all GIRLS breaks dj's room and an Empire room for you junglists check out www.backbreakers.ca for more info.

I was so excited to see the Legend Rectangle play
But...
I was rather disapointed. He did some sweet scratchin and was flawless but his Track selection SUCKED!
I could have gotten the same beats by popin one of his old CDs in my Stereo.

Now to a total different story
JOSH THE FUNKY ONE
This man is just Redic!
Sick ass scratching with hard funky beats. There is nothing better!!
He had me pumped all night!
Such a professional too

Does anyone have Funktion 3?
Me and this other guy grabed a CD that josh handed to us at the same time. I thought we were gona have to brawl over it. But he traded me his autographed Rectangle VIP pass for it and gave me his Email so HOPEFULY he can send it to me.

*PLEASE READ*

To those who were dissapointed with Rectangle's set,
I have a feeling that most of you thought Rectangle is much like a Dj Swamp or a Q-Bert.
Which is wrong. Rectangle has always been a hip hop/scratch dj. Anywhere you go to catch a set or even mp3's its the same style. Commercial hip hop beats (that set 3/4 of the crowd off!) and crazy scratches, cuts, stabs and beat juggling for added flavour.

You have to keep in mind, when playing hip hop beats with lyrics in it u cant scratch like Q-bert and Swamp, it'll sound like shit.

Perhaps the ones dissapointed werent actually getting a view of what he was actually doin. I myself was 2 people beside Todd for the entire set and can honestly say he's exactly what i expected and more.

Whoever said "Rectangle didnt seem to be having a good time" is also wrong.
He was ALWAYS smiles, hand shakes and involved the crowd when cutting the lyrics for the crowd to "insert rhyme here"
I had the chance to speak with him and despite his success he's one of the most humble, friendly, chilled out guys i've ever come across.

It's a shame some of you were expecting something else but to be honest, Rectangle did exactly what he was suposed to do. He was awsome.

And for those who werent impressed with his scratching? behind the back? with his elbows? with his forearm? one hand on the plate and one on the record? 33 AND 45 pitch all the way to +8 back to -8 and back to +8 again? Beat juggling on top of that!?!?!
While also playing actual tracks and not just beats?

He put on a show and it was a great one. Too bad not everyone saw it that way.

-------

Regardless, Wicked nite as i said before. GREAT sets by ALL the dj's. I think everyone brought out all the dancefloor rockers firday nite.
Good crowd to play for aswell. even early!!
Thanks to both 905IVE and Backbreakers for all the hard work on pullin such a historic party off in Hamilton.
Thanks to all who showed up, you made the party what it was.

it was a pretty decent night indeed...

although i was under the assuption that rectangle spun breaks, and im not really a hip hop type of guy.. the guy thing was the vibe in that room was tight, everyone was really into his set and dancing and being happy so thats good.

josh the funky1 playes a really sweet set too. although he went on at like 2 or some jazz he still had me moving. im glad he was in the parlour though

all the locals were really sweet, which i think made the night

good to see some tribers make the trip to hamilton, and good to see old friends from here too.

and tin it was even good right?
super happy that you were able to come.... the summer is gonna be a mess though :)
and was i right????

Rectangle has mad skills from what I've heard, and is by far an AMAZING turntablist etc. But if he or any dj for that matter doesn't work the crowd then he unfortunately won't get their attention... unless they are all big fans or the like. If I saw him I know I would have appreciated his skills. I love watching turntablism in action, and I'm sure Rec would have wowed me.

My two very scattered cents.

Alright I have to admit that I only saw the first and last 15 minutes of rectangle's set, so it's likely that I missed out on some good stuff. And yes funknstyle, you're right about me expecting him to be more of a turntablist... I've never heard any of his stuff other than the ultimate weapon stuff. And going just by that this seemed like a reasonable explanation :)

Anyway I didn't mean to come off negative. Friday night was the most fun I've had in months. No exaggeration.

Oh by the way, what is it about hamilton and my car getting wrecked? The time before last I had my rear windshield bashed in for absolutely no reason. And then this weekend I get back to my car and my right mirror is totally ripped off. What the fuck? Does somebody in Hamilton hate me? Jen I'm looking at you.... :p
