Scotiabank ends sponsorship of 3 more Toronto events
Bank ends sponsorship of Caribbean Carnival, BuskerFest and CHIN International Picnic

CBC News Posted: Oct 15, 2015

Scotiabank has announced it's withdrawing its sponsorship of three more major Toronto events, after withdrawing its support for Nuit Blanche last week.

The Toronto Caribbean Carnival, the CHIN International Picnic and BuskerFest, a summertime entertainment festival that features street performers, will all have to find new sponsors.

The Bank of Nova Scotia says it invested $25 million last year in community events across the GTA, and the bank says it decided to end its sponsorship of the four events, after a review conducted earlier this year.

The bank says it gave organizers 18 months notice ahead of the change and plans on working with them to find new sponsors.

Scotiabank has supported Nuit Blanche since its inception in 2006, BuskerFest since 2000, the Caribbean Carnival since 2008 and the CHIN Picnic since 2009.

"Arts and cultural sponsorships remain an important part of our overall sponsorship strategy," the bank said in a statement.

It will continue its sponsorship of the Scotiabank Giller Prize, the Scotiabank Photography Award and the Scotiabank Contact Photography Festival.
