Hi there,
I know no one's going to read this or reply to it... but I don't care. I'm tired of Tribe billing itself as "Canada's" partyl lifestyle magazine but theres never any mention of whats happening in Montreal... Canada's second largest city. So I'm going to do something about it damnit! Starting with this article! Yeah!
OK so ignoring that little bit of melodrama... on to the review!
For those that don't know, Scissorkicks was recording his set for 2wars 'live mix' compilation (the first one was a set of Jelo's in Halifax). Personally, I think they should've known to pick a better venue than Blizzarts. While its a wikkid place on Fridays and is definitely one of MTL's (and therefore Canada's) hottest clubs... the crowd is notoriously 'chic' and stuffy- more of a place to have an expensive beer and look cool kinda place. Not a 'let down your hair and go nutty to breaks' kind of place.
As a result, the place and the dancefloor probably wasn't as packed as it should've been. But we made up for it damnit! My throat and hands are still god-damned sore from last night! I haven't made so much noise in a very long time! The 2wars crew at the front was wikkid, giving it their all and hyping up the crowd. Bigups to that (and the Plastikman t-shirt
). All in all, there was a small but rowdy crowd.
Scissorkicks was wikkid... so many nu funky breaks! An absolute stormer of a set, just heavy, heavy basslines that made you wanna wiggle that ass again and again! His mixes for the most part were good, if a bit short at times... and then there was that one traiiinnnnnnnn. ouch. Interesting to see if that makes it onto the cd.
Funniest occurence of the night, near the end of his set... the Po Po showed up and started poking around. I have no idea why... but it just made the crowd get louder! If anyone from 2wars can explain why they were there that'd be great.
All in all it was a wikkid night out! Oh btw, thanks to Smokin' papers for the 18 packs of rollies, the t-shirt and the frisbee!! hahahaha
peace
Rob
