To make this explicit for those out of hte loop: the deal with Salinger is that he abhors all media. When he got famous he pulled hermit and refused to speak to anyone, basically, that he didn't already know.

he eventually came out of hiding to protect a black highschool basketball player who was accused by his evil white professor of plagiarizing a paper.

the result was one of the most uplifting and heartwarming events of the year. a true crowd-pleaser.

I'm not familiar with this story -- except for the "Finding Forrester" version -- and so I have to ask: are you serious? Or are you just being silly and referring to that movie?

I was never aware there was a connection, if you're serious.

The character in that godawful movie was based on Salinger AFAIK. Course I haven't seen the godawful movie. Which doesn't prevent me from calling it godawful, as the very reason I haven't seen it is that there is no doubt in my mind that it is godawful.
