I saw the thread title and knew it was you posting.

I never liked this song until I saw a girl dancing to it at Solid Gold in Mississauga one time.

Seriously could any marine from the red-white-and-blue sing so well? Would they even encourage such an excercise?

The last marines I hung out with played ping pong at the embassy and tried to stomp crabs to death on the beach.

I worked for the Japanese for some time and in the meanwhile I worked with a Russian, his name was Serge. Very intelligent Serge was, opened my eyes.

O, interesting topic. It looks like you Jeffsus like Russian war songs. Here is one of the famous ones
this is translation
Sometimes it seems to me each fallen soldier
That never came back home from fields of gore
In fact did never perish, as they told you,
But turned into a crane as white as snow
And ever since those days in their due season
We've seen them soaring high across the sky
With distant voices giving us a reason
To stand in tears and watch them flying by
A wedge of cranes is fading in the distance
So far away I can no longer see
When I run out of days of my existence
I hope those cranes will find a gap for me
That I may soar above my pain and anguish
And join their ranks as many years ago
Recalling all their names in my new language
And names of those whom I have left below.
Sometimes it seems to me each fallen soldier
That never came back home from fields of gore
In fact did never perish, as they told you,
But turned into a crane as white as snow.
