isn't roma/gypsy a racist term?

There was a HUGE fight in the EU about this last month.

In Italy if you call someone a roma or a gypsy it means they are illegal immigrants who are scum and live on the streets in filthy violent packs. They shit and piss on the street, steal, etc.

I am confused?

when travelling in europe...the gypsy girls seem to always target me...maybe because i look friendly and have no problem making eye-contact with strangers.

They fuckign hate Travelers in Ireland. Because of the famine Ireland has strong rights for squatters which the travelers use/abuse to set up shop in farmers fields, it's near impossible to remove them.

yes the knackers in ireland!!

one time a traveller knocked on my friends door in a suburb outside of dublin and ask for suit for her daughter's wedding...so my friend's mom gave her a older pantsuit. then the traveller comes back a few minutes later to ask for matching shoes(!)

i kid you not.

it was a roma curse that gave Angel back his soul. then they sent sexy techno-gypsy-witch Jenny to keep an eye on him as a computer teacher at the school and she almost banged Giles but Angel went bad and killed her first. the point is, Jenny was sexy and gainfully employed and thus is a positive representation of the roma people in pop culture. or i'm maybe just a buffy geek.
