Rollins Hit Streak Thread

he's at 37. I don't think it should count if he gets to 57, because of the carry-over.

I don't think he'll be able to beat it, he was so hot at the end of last year, it's just hard to belief he could still be on fire after such a long lay-off.

Hershieser was saying tonight, he thinks it's even harder to try and carry it over from one year to the next...and he speaks from experience, when he had the 60 innings of shutout ball that got ended the first inning back, the next season.

I don't think it should count. he had all that time off. yeah, he still hit in the games he played consecutively, but Joe D. did it in the same season. plus he shagged Monroe.

even if Rollins eclipses DiMaggio, #7 is still the winner.

of course it should.

a streak shouldn't end simply because the season does.

if anything, it should have an asterisk stating it was over two seasons.
like you, I'm entitled to my opinion.

it will count and MLB will honour it as such if he breaks the record. I personally feel that it should be done in one season and not spread over two.

DiMaggio holds two MLB records for his 56 games - longest consecutive hit streak & longest single season hit streak.
If Rollins surpases 56 games, he'll have the record for consective games, but DiMaggio will still hold the single season record.

Dimaggio had a 56 game hitting streak. Nice. Then he started a 19 game hitting streak the very next game. Good luck to Rollins, but Dimaggio was on fire that year.

Dimaggio's streak is tainted. Back then foul balls that made it into the stands counted as hits.

Pete Rose still has baseball's most unbeatable record: the only person to coach, play, and wager, all within one game. Sure the Reds lost that game, but they covered the spread.

My greatest contribution to baseball was acting as lookout while a friend of mine stole Bo Jackson's bat. Bo didn't know to not put his bat within reaching distance of the front row.
