I will be taking a hardware sampling course, learning on the Roland SP-505. Has anyone used this? I am wondering if I should purchase it or not.

What is involved in the course? For $100 on CL you can get a Yamaha A4000 sampler which can do a lot and if you don't like it you have a fairly decent FX unit...
