Rockstar - Supernova?

this sounds beyond awful

The next season of Rock Star will focus on finding a lead singer for a hybrid band that calls itself Supernova.

Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee, former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted and Guns N' Roses guitarist Gilby Clarke have pulled together to create Supernova, the new band that will be featured in the reality TV show.

On last year's Rock Star, Nova Scotia native J.D. Fortune was the last singer standing to become the new front man for Australian band INXS.

Fortune has gone on to lead the band on an international tour and a new album. He was chosen from among 15 finalists, including four Canadians.

Rock Star talent scouts are currently auditioning hopefuls around the world. About 2,000 tried out in Toronto last weekend and auditions will be held in Vancouver on March 23.

Motley Crue, Guns N' Roses and Metallica were all gritty, metal-influenced bands that peaked in the 1980s.

Since leaving Motley Crue, Lee has released three solo albums and starred in another reality TV show, Tommy Lee Goes to College. He has been married to both Heather Locklear and Pamela Anderson.

Newsted replaced original Metallica bassist Cliff Burton after his death in 1986 and stayed with the band until 2003. He has since played with Echobrain and Voivod.

After leaving Guns N' Roses in 1993, Clarke launched a solo career and has worked with various artists including Michael Jackson and Lenny Kravitz.

The winner of Rock Star will record a CD with Supernova to be produced by Butch Walker, who's written or produced tracks for Avril Lavigne and Pink.

I was crossing my fingers for the remaining members of Queen to seek out a lead singer....but alas, no one could be quite like Freddie

You obviously missed the Queen concert w/ Paul Rogers that finished up from just over an hour ago at the ACC. ROgers did an amazing job covering the Queen tracks and his own material from Free and Bad Company. THe concert was spectacular & it was phenomenol!

someone said this years show is not the same format of a new lead singer for an existing band...We were signed up for it and it is apparently full bands going head to head, like canadian idol.

wow this changes everything! :S

Early favorites are Storm Large who killed The Who's "Pinball Wizard", Josh who did an awesome version of The Black Crows' "She Talks to Angels", and Toronto's own Lucas Rossi who nailed Billy Idol's "Rebel Yell".

Honorary mention to Dilana for scaring the shit out of me with her rendition of Nirvana's "Lithium" and Zayra for being weird as fuck but in the hot way on Evanescence's "Bring me to Life".

The Icelandic guy was..... icelandic. Either him or that baseball dude who *tried* to do Roxanne are my picks to get the boot.

I agree with the 2 picks to go (icelandic moby-lookalike, and the Police butcher) but have to add Zayra and Dilana to that list. Zayra seemed off pitch wise and has the stage presence of a 5 star member of Jerry Lewis's telethon. She looked twitchy and gross. I just don't want to see her again...ever.

Dilana looked cool at first but when she finally flipped it was just plain weird. I can see her fronting a desperate neo-nazi punk group but not this band.

This show is one of the most entertaining reality shows on TV I think. The concept itself is a bit cheesey, but the truth is you get to watch some really talented people perform some really great tunes!

Haha I liked Dilana's performance. When she went apeshit at the end of Lithium, I honestly thought she was gonna jump off that fucking stage and kill every single god damn person in the crowd. It was awesome. If she doesn't turn out to be a psycho stabby meth addict, she might actually win the whole thing. She's definitely got the balls to hang with Tommy Lee and the other members of the band.

I also liked Lukas Rossi, aka Satanic Mini Me, aka emo-Clint Howard. The dude seems to be a total douchebag, but he's got tons of stage presence and charisma. Plus he's got the whole homeless dude from Toronto thing going. Right now he seems to be a frontrunner, for sure. I think he might get the encore tonight.

The other frontrunner for the chicks is IMO Storm Large. She's hot, she can sing and she's got the moves. Plus she's totally got a porn star name. Score!

The aussie dude also could be a frontrunner. He's got the typical australian personality - funny, laid back chill dude, and he can actually sing. He might turn out to be a bit too much of a surfer bum, though.

I found the performances really overdone, especially the last guy doing the rebel yell song. He was cheap. Overdramatic. Same with the girl who tried to sing "smells like Teen spirit", ovredramatic........"Ohhh, she's trying to get into the roll, she's hardcore"...more like cheapcore! I found Tommy Lee's judging to be really bad, like at some points I thought he was high on something, maybe blow?? Jason Newsted was the only one giving some critisism. This show is just a souped up version of American Idol, only the singing is worse. The song selection is better but none of the artists (I thought) performed them well. Too dramatic and fake. They were trying to be the heavy metal, grunge stars when really they are the kids working the drive through at McDonalds.

Imagine someone really talented trying so hard to be in a band with hack talent!!

Sounds awesome to me.

I mean, more awesome than going out and drinking on a patio for the rest of the summer.

nobody sang Smells Like Teen Spirit. I think you're thinking of "Lithium".

I like how the producer is involved this year with the criticism, that's an excellent idea

Really? So just throwing together a bunch of washed-up wastoids and assuming they're going to take a stranger on and make hit records makes a great show?

(I don't know where I'm going with this, but I haven't had lunch yet)
