IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: Lt. Keith Boyd Assistant Chief Deputy Coroner 415-827-8202 kboyd@marinsheriff.org August 11, 2014

Investigation into Death of Actor Robin Williams

On August 11, 2014, at approximately 11:55 am, Marin County Communications received a 9-1-1 telephone call reporting a male adult had been located unconscious and not breathing inside his residence in unincorporated Tiburon, CA. The Sheriff’s Office, as well as the Tiburon Fire Department and Southern Marin Fire Protection District were dispatched to the incident with emergency personnel arriving on scene at 12:00 pm. The male subject, pronounced deceased at 12:02 pm has been identified as Robin McLaurin Williams, a 63 year old resident of unincorporated Tiburon, CA. An investigation into the cause, manner, and circumstances of the death is currently underway by the Investigations and Coroner Divisions of the Sheriff’s Office. Preliminary information developed during the investigation indicates Mr. Williams was last seen alive at his residence, where he resides with his wife, at approximately 10:00 pm on August 10, 2014. Mr. Williams was located this morning shortly before the 9-1-1 call was placed to Marin County Communications. At this time, the Sheriff’s Office Coroner Division suspects the death to be a suicide due to asphyxia, but a comprehensive investigation must be completed before a final determination is made. A forensic examination is currently scheduled for August 12, 2014 with subsequent toxicology testing to be conducted.

Media inquiries should be directed to Lt. Keith Boyd at 415-827-8202 or kboyd@marinsheriff.org.

Very unfortunate to hear about this - he had gone back into rehab recently voluntarily saying that he was getting on top of some problems he had slipped back into. I really admired how he did this before things got out of control.

He was a hell of a comedian who was loved by many and made so many people laugh. This is a huge loss for the comedy community.

RIP...I will always remember my first time seeing him on TV for an episode of "Happy Days". When I was a little kid, we had a black and white TV and I didn't even know his costume was red. LOL It was alien Mork vs. Fonzie before Robin Williams got his own TV show "Mork and Mindy".

The worst news... It's really sad that he was able to make so many people laugh, and yet he had so many issues of despair and sadness in his own life.

RIP Sir, you really were one of the finest!

Just crying.

As a comedy hound in love with most of his works throughout the years, I... just can't believe it happened this way.

My colleague just posted, "do we know how he really died? He could have choked on his own body hair." What??? *baleeted*

Appropriate for GTA's massive rain tonight. I will be playing a hundred characters in my head over and over tonight. One of the best.

*step and change and ball and change*

I liked some of his comedy work, but was never really a fan of his dramatic work. I did once watch him do stand-up in French and it was great, so the man was a true comedian and entertainer. RIP.

I'm so gutted by this. He was a true chameleon. He could do drama and comedy, slapstick or subtle.

Let's not forget the amazing dramatic work he also did.
