He sounded so defeated when he realized that was Phelps. lol He's been pretty good though.

I like Elliot a lot, he's intelligent, thoughtful in his reporting and while still getting his feet wet on the announcing front, I do agree that he's done an admirable job.

I can only imagine the ribbing he's going to get from Mcowan, Brunt etc

Michael Phelps is the best. He's a pot smoking, partying, gambling, REAL dude that crushes people in the pool. An inspiration for all!

Moreover, what do you think is going to be the more impressive feat? Phelps ridiculous domination of swimming over the past four Olympics (most gold medals ever, four straight golds in one event), or Usain Bolt winning the 100 metres three Olympics in a row (which he no doubt will next week)?

I think the only way to truly settle this is a gunny sack race on the final day, winner takes all the medals!

The mistaken call on Phelps capped a nightmarish 24 hours for Friedman and swimming analyst Byron MacDonald. On Wednesday night, MacDonald set off an international furor during another of Oleksiak’s medal swims, the women’s 4x200-metre freestyle relay, when he forgot the broadcasting axiom: treat all microphones as live.

Shortly after Oleksiak out-dueled a Chinese swimmer to get Canada a bronze medal, MacDonald thought he was off the air and blurted that one of the Chinese athletes, 14-year-old Ai Yanhan who swam the second leg, “went out like stink, died like a pig. Thanks for that.”

tough day at the office for sure.

Those are swimmers slang terms though, not descriptions of the swimmer themselves

She took 5 minutes to change her gloves before the last penalty was taken against her in an effort to psych the kicker out.

Who's the coward. No one does that.

“Sweden dropped off. They didn’t want to open play. They didn’t want to pass the ball. They didn’t want to play great soccer,” Solo said. “It was a combative game, a physical game. Exactly what they wanted and exactly what their game plan was. They dropped into a 50. They didn’t try and press. They didn’t want to open the game. And they tried to counter with long balls. We had that style of play when Pia was our coach.”

Sweden’s coach, Pia Sundhage, who actually coached Team USA from 2008-2012, fired back at Solo afterwards.
Pia Sundhage's response to Hope Solo's cowards comment: I don't give a crap. I'm going to Rio, she's going home.

I just watched DeGrasse and Bolt's preliminary heats today for the 100m. Call it wishful thinking or being stupid, but I think DeGrasse will surprise the track and field world and beat Usain Bolt (he doesn't look 100% healthy from his injury) and bring home the gold for Canada tomorrow night.

Andre DeGrasse sounds very confident in his post-race interview. Let's really hope he becomes Canada's golden boy, especially now that Penny Oleksiak has become Canada's sweetheart. Canada needs this!!! :D

Europe's top Olympic official arrested in Rio over tickets sales - BBC News

Police in Brazil have arrested the head of the European Olympic Committees, Irishman Patrick Hickey, in Rio over illegal Olympic ticket sales.
Mr Hickey, 71, is suspected of being involved in a scheme to sell tickets for higher than their face value.
He was taken to hospital after his arrest as a precaution, where he will probably spend the night, police said.
When officers went to his hotel room on Wednesday morning they found his wife there with his Olympic credentials.
Mrs Hickey said her husband had left for Ireland at the weekend, police told a news conference.
With the help of the hotel they began a search and found Mr Hickey in the room next door, they said.
While police said they had reason to believe he was trying to escape, a video apparently of the arrest on the ESPN Brazil sports news website shows Mr Hickey answering the door naked to officers.
