Richie Hawtin @ Sona

First time hearing Richie live...def. impressed...extremely hard set. I'm not sure what he had up with him, i've seen pictures of some of his set-ups, and with the video display of the booth, it didn't seem like there was much there except for a labtop...although it sounded like he had an effects machine too.
The guy after Richie blew, Philgood, I liked his tracks but he mashed all his mixes, hard to dance to. Didn't really like the lights constantly coming on, I don't know why they were thinking that was a good thing...maybe to save cash on real lighting.

I don't think I'd consider him one of the best tech dj's though, absolutely solid mixing, creative...but the constant pounding was a little too much, not much flow...Good night overall though...

I can't comment on Hawtin's whole set because I got tired and left...

I think they start headliners too late at SONA- 4am!- I have to sleep so I can do things the next day.

Tiga I thought was good before him- I caught a bit of his set too.

Hawtin is good though! I think I DO consider him one of the best DJs and producers- his music at least is really cultivated and his style has matured... I like when he gets experimental and minimal. He has a lot of years behind him and a lot to offer. I liked his newest album when I heard it too!

If you're going to NYC- he'll be at Limelight tommorow w./ John Acquaviva.

Most intimate Ritchie Hawtin vibe that I've seen so far. Still prefer his 3 decks efx and 909 days...but still got my ass kicked that night.

ps. a few buds of mine that came up from NY couldn't get over 'all the sexy girls dancing to techno'

Best Hawtin Moment - Last year at the Mockingbird when he dropped a live version of Chiapet by Westworld. L-I-V-E! I was in Bhangra heaven.
