Hey Will, you're awesome.
Thank you so much. Yeah, I'm still feeling pretty awful about what happened. The more I think about it, the more I realize how much of a setup it was
It was the first time I stepped more than a few feet away from the counter the whole day and it was one time too many
People on Tranceaddict were talking about throwing a fundraiser to raise back the money that was stolen.
The suspects in question both looked between the ages of 25 to 35. Neither really seemed like ravers and they both had slight accents that were non-Torontonian.
A first impression of suspect #1 would not be as a thief.
This is what I think happened:
Suspect #1 came in an hour earlier on his own to scope out the venue
He saw me sell tickets to several people and saw where I put the ticket money
He pretended to be interested in merchandise and WEMF and said he would be back to make purchases
He meets up with suspect#2 for an hour to discuss plans (it doesn't usually take an hour to get cash from a cash machine) then returns and asks me to put his knapsack behind the counter for safe-keeping; I do
Suspect #2 enters about 2 minutes after suspect #1
Suspect #1 picks out clothes "to buy" and I begin writing a receipt for him
He tells me to help suspect #2 and asks suspect #2 "Where you here before me?"
Suspect #2 asks me to go in the back of the store to show him the women's clothes for his "girlfriend"
I look back at the counter to see suspect #1 still awaiting to "make his purchase"
Suspect #2 quickly asks me to hold up a shirt for him to look at
I hold it up, then I hear another customer come into the store
As I run up to the counter, suspect #2 quickly exits the store behind me (without me knowing)
Suspect #1 is no longer there and neither is his bag... he didn't buy the stuff I had already bagged for him
After helping the new customer, he leaves, and I run back to help suspect #2 and realize he's gone
I thought the situation was kind of peculiar, but didn't think anything of it until the next customer came in to buy Bus tickets and the ticket money was gone.
It wasn't until I cashed out that I realized money was missing from the till as well
