i was listening to the radio last week and heard his single, apparently it's getting a lot of airplay. my first thought was wow, who is this guy? they mentioned his name and i went home, loaded up morpheus and got my grubby little hands on the whole cd (hehe).

anyway.. has anyone else heard his cd? every track on it is solid, i would say the other songs are better than the single. it really brings you back to another time.

then i found out the kid's from winnipeg. i'd rather hear his stuff played on the radio than britney spears or n sync! nice to see a talented homegrown kid making it.

I agree that he is better than N'Sync and Britney but I would only rate his album as decent. It is nice to see a Canadian doing well without having to do their best Pearl Jam-Tragically Hip-Grunge impression though. I think his 2nd album will be better just cause I think he will have more control over it and it wont soound so over produced.

^^my two cents

he mixed the whole thing by himself in his basement and played all the instruments on it.

no shit!!

well i stand corrected i guess. I also downloaded it so I dont have any of this info. I figured he played all the instruments but I also assumed it was produced by someone else. I still give him respect but I don't love the album.

ps....thanks for the info miguel.

no worries!

i found it to be a breath of fresh air

i suggest people that like curtis mayfield or marvin gaye or al green check it out. the album is on that tip.

no surprise that motown is now distributing it in the US.

I heard this guy the first time about 2-3months ago, immediately i searched audio galaxy to find nothing, since then i've left it by the wayside.

i can appreciate that he produced it in his basement and that he played all the instruments himself, but for some reason the guy *really* bugs me. whenever i see his video on much, i cringe. i feel like he has styled himself to look like this urban cool guy but in fact, he is just a guy trying too hard. i dunno, could just be me.

plus we listen to the cd nonstop at my work adn i hate my work, so hearing his stuff brings up bad connections with work!

take another look! Mcbee he's signed to motown so i don't think he needs to try too hard... Motown has a nack for finding quality vocalists and talented muscisians, I expect his next album will define him as an artist.

Its not his voice or his music that bugs me...
more just his style....i'm fascinated with pop music and how style/personalities are created, the 'looks' that are put together etc....and for some reason, i feel like some marketing dude put remy's look together when he got signed and the marketing plan was developed.

who knows...i could just be weird!:D

mcbee, we're talking about mainstream music here. obviously there is a lot of marketing involved, and artists are just "product". i guess what i am saying is.. you think the urban cool guy thing comes across as fake, when he's from winnipeg, etc.

well, most "pop stars" fit that mould.. think about it, britney spears is from louisiana or something. nelly (tough rapper image) is from the midwest. music artists.. movie stars.. most have a marketing plan, most get packaged a certain way. and most (when you look at their past histories) would cause you to go "hmmmm...". but hey, that's the business!

can't begrudge a kid from winnipeg for buying into the star system. how can anyone blame him? wouldn't you want elton john saying he dug your music also! :) i'm personally glad he's making it! and i don't really are too much about his contrived image, that's just a fact of life in the entertainment business.
