Can you believe how many there are out there?

Dj's watch your records at all time, I have had a few stolen off me before. A Dj I know had someone walk out of Element with his whole bag on the weekend.

lee <--- would die if someone did that to him!

Gah!

My music is the only thing I'd declare for home insurance (assuming I had home insurance)! I suggest DJ's chain your record bag to something solid :)

i often cringe at the thought of losing my cds, records & i don't even depend on them for a living...unfortunately it's just a reflection of someones total lack of respect for others property...hopefully they turn up soon...

ain't that the truth.

whenever i have people over at my gates i'm paranoid that some fucker is gonna thief any of my tunes...especially the classics and hard to finds that i've discovered over the past year...

i've spent long hours on Ebay and in small record stores hoking out personal faves.

It's rather sad and pathetic what people will do.

Hopefully that punk who stole your friend's bag o recs from Element gets caught or falls down dead.
I would cry forever if my records/cds were stolen.:(

one of the reasons I stopped djing.
One night after I played a Jungle party at Carib in Scarborough, I got hit up for all my records ( 2 crates).

sad sad feeling.

I feel your pain.. believe me.

All my good oldschool and dubplates were ganked outta my car..
on the way to a party. They broke the window to get at em. It's been a slow process recovering the pieces.. I say you shouldn't have given up.

thats a good question actually...
does anyone have record insurance?
and if so, how much is it?

(i'm in the process of dumping everything onto my computer anyway, but a box of records just smells so nice :p )

It's covered under house insurance.. even if it's stolen out of your car or other place..

Deductable for house insurance is usually about $500.

Just make sure you keep all receipts,

Not necessarily. Check your policy; often if item(s) of value greater than $5000 are in your home you must list them specifically within a policy to collect compensation in the event of theft and/or damage.

It usually doesn't cost any extra, so it is certainly worth the phone call to let your broker know.

Just imagine if you had a house fire (and assuming no one died), the grief you'd feel over thousands of records lying there in a melted pile of goo.

Tell your broker!

No word of a lie if I would catch anyone that stole my records I would stab them in the eyes and ears with a dull pencil.

oh, i could think of worse things...it's perhaps the one scenario that would truly make me consider murder as a viable option. (Yes - take note of that, any lurker out there that has thought such things)

Hopefully I'll only have to imagine what such an unholy event feels like. I can seriously see how that kind of thing would literally crush the spirit of a dj. It takes time to collect all those records and some you just will never get back...music is the heart and soul of some people - to have someone steal that away from you is on par with stabbing their sister in the back with a knife.

I was actually going to start a militia group that would patrol the area that my car was broken into to find the theives. Once caught, I was going to slowly remove their finger nails one by one until they told me where my records were. Once I secured them, plus whatever else in exchange for the cost of my window and sorrow, I would brake their hands so severely they would need help to wipe themselves let alone steal anything ever again.

Here's a helpfull hint to all you DJ's out there. I write my name on all my records so if they try selling them, the record store owner will have enough sense no to buy them, or if I see someone playing a record with my name on it, that gives me the right to grab a baseball bat and beat him/her with it.

My 2 cents
