Hey,

Decided to actually go out and get some certs.... I'm going to grab my CCNA first.. then probably MCSE (even though its not worth much these days) and A+ because its actually required for some tech positions within ibm (for insurance reasons, apparantly)...

Any suggestions on what books / authors I should check out?

Right now i'm lookin at getting the CCNA Guide by Todd Lammle/Sybex Inc. and the CCNA Exam notes book that goes with it.

Thanks!

Dave

The materials you listed should be sufficient. Its not that intensive depending on your level on networking knowledge. CCNA is all about network provisioning - I doubt you'll have a problem.

yep thats what i was figuring

plus i just inquired here.. and we can get any courses we want.. ON CD... I've request a bunch (values of the full Cisco Cert courses was over 2 grand! ) but i'm still going to buy the book too..

Never get too many resources..

Cheers and thanks

I'm following this track right now...
A+ and Network+
Both of these can be used as electives towards the newer MCSA (Microsoft Cert. Systems Analyst) which I'll take later.
Then I might go for the CCNA just for a little background into routers. :)

CCNA - go with Ciscopress CCNA Exam Guide
- also read Ciscopress ICND it fills in some
gaps

CCNP - The Ciscopress books were shotty .. but ok.

MCSE - Sybex always did a good job with Exam Crams
from Corriolis

I wuldn't make as much light of the MCSE as you are..
It's not some bullshit "learn it in a week" cert
I know there's still paper MCSE's out there from the NT4 track, but
for 2K it's alot more difficult to finish.

Aside, get the MS Press books for your MCSE studies
Sybex for the CCNA
If you need a book for your A+, you shouldn't even be posting this thread..
