That was my first time to Tonic, I never had an interest to go before. I don't think I'll be going back any time soon.

Hawtin's set was great, he really got the crowd going. Unfortunately, the place was way overpacked...no room anywhere on the dancefloor, which only allowed for headbop dancing, which sucked. The place just felt cold to me....I was very tired though, so maybe it was just me. The night didn't cost me anything though, so I can't really complain.

I hope everyone else had a good time!

I truly had a great time there.
Despite of the line up outside which made me wait for just about 50 minutes or so, I did get in around 12:25amish, just around the time when Richie came on the deck..

His set was consist of many kind of techno..When I was listening to the set, I could not really come to have clear definition of it, but there definitely was some minimal (of course right? ;) and detroit stuff..a lot of *evil presenting tracks..which made me transform into a devil bitch which i pretty much enjoy a lot dancing :D some of them were tribal..and i felt as though i was an evil triber for a moment, and then transformed into an nasty puking ailian like creature..lol it sounds disgusting..but that is how i felt.. :) ), a little bit of dub stuff (rather tech-house root), some a bit clubbier tech-house stuff which i did not expect to hear, but created *mature* atmoshpere..I believe he did that for the crowd, and I am not disliking it..
there was not much of *HARD* *HARD* stuff, but within the genre of techno he chose to spin, he really did it hard, and that is the way he does..so i liked it :)

his mixing was stable in the beginning, making the crowd going, and it definitely built up a good beginning phase..then while he was spinning some tech-house like tracks, there were some moments where it was time to change the track..but he did not get to..and it made me stop danding for a moment and just stand still in the middle of dance floor..it is funny how you see all other people around you keep dancing to a situation like that, cause they are totally high (you do tell by the look of droopy eyes), and repetitively doing the same move like a john travolta, disco fever... ;) so i had a fun moment enjoying observing people for the short moment..and then Richie would mix in some other record to change the flow of the music, and there is me again, going nuts on the dance floor..lol (i bet if there was someone who observed it all, me and other people around me...it would have been a lot of fun observation :D)

his mixing overall was not disappointing..he did not disappoint me..in the last 40 minutes or so, he dropped some of the tracks that are familiar to me (despite of me having no partie in the summer..i have no idea where i picked that up from..hmm..)...which made it fun to dance to.

the way he ended..he would just let this minimal sounding track fade out...which was nice..:) but he did another track for the crowd..and the last track was again, fun to dance too..

overall, the energy level of the set steadily increased in the beginning..and then stayed there for a long time..and then had the peak with his evil sounding detroit and minimal favour..and then sort of wrapped out with rather ambient like minimal stuff..

i can say it was a good and fun enjoyable set. no one is perfect, so i do not let those moments of stop dancing to destroy the whole thing.

i thank Richie for coming down to spin for us, and it was a very good thing ;)

I just want to thank you for those tribe members showed up :)

How to describe this night?

Relentless beats

No wasting time with a slow gentle build up.
No soft tracks to break up the onslaught.
Hit you over the head and keep banging.
Musical equivalent of murder with a blunt instrument.

The club was rammed, what would you expect considering the headliner. I gave up on the center of the dance floor early on, space to move in the lounge areas and at the back. The line was a pain, what did it take over an hour to let the 20 or so people ahead of me into the club?

Richie came on at 12:30 and let loose immediately with a hard tech and continued with the assault for close most of his set. He'd drop bits and pieces of familiar tracks or ones that sound familiar but can't quite place, and just as you figured you knew what was coming next, the sample would come apart to be lost in the beats. If this is what the new CD sounds like (I'm sure it does), it should be killer.
The last part of his set, it seemed he broke away from the this formula and let tracks play a bit longer, although working it as only Richie can. Excellent set - 2hrs 45min of a hard wonderful ride.
Bracketed by Paul Walker, pre and post Richie, set the tone to start and ended in style. Thanks for keeping me dancing right to the end, playing and fucking with us all.

Hey there to the few Tribe boarders who made it out: Kumi, Madness, Janice, Che, Loress and Alchemy.

I just want to know who all those people were in there? i never see them anywhere which leads me to believe they're like, Guv. peeps or something, i dunno...

got there really early, just after 10pm and got in shortly after, ran into Loress <why you came out being in ill health, i'll never know...hardcore!!....
Paul walker had a great selection of tech-house/techy tracks...but what was us with the skillz, there were trainwrecks everywhere...que pasa?

Waddup to Vench...i miss your hugz...

i wanted to be in the middle of it all to see Richie, so i stuck it out in the middle of the floor <this is where Tom comes in> and we be bumpin' an jammin' to the cool beats...
then these guys come infront of me surrounded by a cloud bad smoke, yes that's right, bad smoke...so i split to the back by the door where there was plenty of room.
Waddup Timmy, was good to see you...

Richie just kept bringing tracks down, and releasing them back with a fury no one could anticipate...really great techno, like so damn great...he was always busy on all that stuff he brought with him, i will see him again and again, no doubt

vive le techno, fer real

big ups to Marcus, Par-T, Loress, Mars, Seb, Vench, Tim, and Newton...

thanks also to the organizers for the night, guestlist is so sweet .....

Why would you hate to say that? Paul is a brilliant DJ. If I HAD to listen to techno, I'd take Paul over Hawtin anyday.

"hate to say this"

im thinking she meant as in Dj, "status" not dj performance...

and i too think the same sediments Laura,Paul Walker was good shit,he played deep,a little housy for my liking, then played groove and dancefloor...techno...Ritchie played the same tempo..and didnt let up...except for a few tracks... EX. (steve rachmad, and Reinheit Voight..)

--> Laura,did i start that shit>>??
wink.gif

i dont think so grrl... :p

i distinctly rememeber you with the ball first!!

i personally have a lot of respect for those DJs who work as rather *artist*.

That is the one reason why i like this dude, richie.
he is able to put all pieces of music element into one frame work, and create something that is not played by other DJs.

he is able to do this *jig saw puzzle* work live at the DJ set..

it is not like you play around with your music production toy and record only good stuff and put it on the CD..he does it live for you...all from the records, and the sampling effects from his lap top.

unless you really do know the sound of music you want to create at that moment..perhaps thinking 5 to 10 seconds earlier, how is it possible to have a steady energy flowing set like Richie does?

He does things that you do not expect.
He would totally change the flow of music 180 degree and go hard with the new sound..when you realize the sound has changed, you already are getting on the new flow, and are still on the groove..

a DJ that i define kinda bad would drop something that unexpected..and still has trouble getting a good flow even after the changing the tone of the music..so then you would be like : "what a fuck was that??" and you still do not feel this new tone grooving..and you are like.."that was bad"

In the last couple parties I attended when Richie spun, there was nothing really special about his set..the set he spun at the party at the warehouse in july had some aimbient sound in his music, which was nice..but i did not really feel much energy from his mixing..

but this time, i felt his energy..and i know everyone did
smile.gif

I personally love what Richie does.

I love it so much.

Thanks for reading.

peace~
