the revolution would have begun if they did not televise the game

the metro paper sucks for that kind of information

at least it added some drama to this boring ass mundane monday morning

10 friggin' minutes and ALL leafs tickets are sold out

what a sham

if you watched the last game on tv, you would have seen them mentioning the television time for tonight's game.

i'm still puzzled as to why none of the canadian mainstream channels are carrying the raptors playoff games. what happened to ctv/cfto?

Actually the people listening in on the radio get the same announcement/announcers as those watching on TV.

interesting question.

the production costs do not warrant ctv/tsn etc to pay to show the games since tnt is up here already. there isn't a big enough fan base to hear rod black talk smack or leo rautins give me basketball 101. the canadian channels then put in a canadian half/pre/post game show to save the money to make it look like a canadian telecast.

thats why.

Try living in Ottawa where they actually showed the Senators game over the Leaf game (game 4) ! I know it makes sense to the Ottawaonians, but it was a sad sad day for us blue-blooded Leaf Junkies. :(

Probably because playoff broadcast rights are exclusive. Networks probably dish out large dollars for this. TSN/Sportsnet probably syndicate the broadcast from TNT/TBS only because we don't get those channels here. If we did, then those game would probably only be on those channels.

In fact I believe the broadcast rights are revised by round. I'm pretty sure that NBC has exclusive rights to the finals. Or it could change so that NBC gets weekend games and TNT/TBS gets weekday.

thats why they simulcast the games. 95% of the raps games are televised.

i know. what i'm asking is why don't any of the mainstream canadian channels either carry the simulcast or do their own broadcast?

of course it will be expensive but there is prestige in carrying these events. just look at the bidding wars that the american networks go through for the rights to show regular season nfl games, the superbowl, the world series, wimbledon, the masters tournament, etc.

CBC has hockey so it's understandable that they aren't interested and Global has a powerhouse prime-time line-up. i can't believe that none of CTV, CityTV or CH11 are interested.

Do you read Chris Zelkovich from the star? He is their media and sports columnist and touched on this topic lately.

The bidding wars the US stations got into have not necessarily paid off. Especially when you look at baseball and what FOX paid for that. In Canada there are simply not enough viewers to warrant the CTV/Global battle for NBA exclusivity. In Canada, more people watch curling than the Raptors. Were a niche market so they do not see the point of putting on a big show while an American station can do the job for us. As well, in Canada we don't have that many stations when you look at ownership concentration. Aspers own global and BCE owns CTV/TSN/Sportsnet. Its not like NBC/CBS/ABC etc fighting for millions and millions of viewers.

and believe it or not, the mainstream channels dont want to upset their fans of shows like law and order or friends or whatever because they own the sports channels and want them to migrate there so it wont make sense to lose thousands of viewers b/c of a raptors game. and the national channels are national so people in Chiquotomi BC dont care about vince carter as much as they do about Pheoebe, monica etc.

oops...

i think rod black is the worst. how can you be a credible basketball announcer if youre also doing the friggin' equestrian show for TSN? and baseball, curling, figure skating....

they wont get rid of the canadian shows unfortunately. alot of canadians are still backwards with understanding basketball so while the US shows talk about pick and rolls etc., the canadian shows have to give a canadian slant.

i think black sucks. so does joshi.
