another huge beef I had with the franchise was in Die Another Day, he spent 9 months or so in a North Korean jail getting tortured. The James Bond I came to know and love would never spend 9 months in jail (not getting laid for nine months, wtf!? this isn't sadhiv we're talking about, it's James fucking Bond!)
it sounds like I'm getting more pissed off than I actually am, I still love James Bond but I think the franchise could be doing a better job. But Daniel Craig was a good pick and I have great hope for the next few films. The scripts are getting better than the Brosnan days when it was seriously dumbed-down for American audiences. some of the dry wit is back thank God.

Good analysis. I got the Goldfinger reference right away with Fields' demise, and the story plot did strike me to be a distant cousin of Dr. No. I didn't catch some of the other references, but it's nice to see another Bond fan keeping an eye out for the other nods the film gave.
I really think this film could have been a lot better if it weren't for the timing of the writer's strike. And while a lot of people didn't care for Green as a villain, I kind of like seeing a guy who reminds me of Roman Polanski being a mastermind behind the situation. Most didn't get the severity of the key machinations of the plot through the nuances they were making (being able to destabilize a government through acquiring water and infrastructure rights), I think they were making their point with Bond's critique to Felix about the nature of the CIA choice of allies served the film better than some expository dialogue about how water is going to become one of the most valued resources on the planet.
As for the Minority Report like interfaces, we've got some at where I'm working right now. Not quite as advanced, but they're just about in every department in our building.

I just watched this the other day and thoroughly enjoyed it! As a ludlum/bourne fan, it's always a treat to watch CIA-style combat/espionage tactics and this one certainly doesn't dissapoint.
Liam's ninja training from batman seems to have made for a solid foundation which he carries into this movie.

What a great action film! Cars, and guns, and running and hot women! Fast paced, fun times.
But...
This is a shitty Bond film! No plot, no....BOND. It is not a good Bond film. If you;ve been religiously watching bond films since you were 12 years old like yours truly, you'd understand.

I think people are confusing 'lack of plot', with the fact that this movie was meant to show that the MI6 was in deep shit because they honestly had no idea what they were dealing with. Bond was always chasing fuckers down and kicking ass because as soon as he got any tiny piece of information he had to act on it immediately, not sit around, mull it over, explain to the audience what he had to do, phone his mother to explain it to her and then screw some chicks in between.
I mean they said right at the beginning of the movie 'you have no idea who we are, do you?' and they still barely have any idea. The audience wasn't given perfect knowledge, because Bond/MI6 didn't have it either.

confusing action sequences? i take it the ppl complaining about this must have had their head explode during the car chase scene in Ronin

The plot in both movies kept you guessing the whole time.
Daniel Craig makes a great Bond. I also enjoyed how the story wasn't as focused on Q-Branch and their gadgets.
Great chases, good fights. Classic Bond.

MGM is something like $4 billion in debt, and the back catalog (something like 1986 and earlier) is owned by Time Warner. They have to earn that back on their own. It's not helping that Tom Cruise's film Valkyrie didn't do that well in theaters and their production schedule has pretty much halted.
As for the Sam Worthington talk - Daniel Craig's contract for playing the role of James Bond I think is up by 2011 (it was for something like 3 movies or 2011), so they're going to have to start looking for replacements in case he doesn't re-sign or even asks for too much when they offer its renewal. Personally, I think Worthington is a horrible choice - he wasn't that good in Avatar nor in Terminator Salvation, even though he's getting a lot of name recognition. He strikes me as an Aussie Keanu Reeves - all screen presence, not much in acting ability yet.
