I've said it before and i'll say it again...
the Guvernment is completely unpralleled in lighting and sound, and the enthusiasm of the crowd is so overwhelming. The combination of these things makes for a completely surrealistic experience

The encore was awesome, I didn't mind hearing *for and angel* for literally the hundredth time

wicked night, I was lucky to have found a guy in line to buy a ticket from.

That was one of the best nights out ive ever had in my life. PVD WAS ON FIRE! I thought his set this time around was much better than the last time he was here. PVD was playing some seriously HARD PROG TRANCE. Nice track selection and good mixing. GUV was CRAZY LAST NIGHT! Great vibe, great music, everything was perfect last night. I cant wait for him to come back to GUV!
Hearing XPANDER and For An Angel almost made me break down into tears last night. Mark Oliver AS ALWAYS was in fine form. Was the perfect warump last night. Last night was a truly memorable experience and was the most fun ive had clubbing in a loooong time.
I hope he comes back to GUV soon.

It was actually Mark Oliver who came back on around 5am. He spun Chemical Brothers - Africa, and one other track before turning everything off and stage diving into the crowd.

Anyhow, PVD was ace!! He spun a similar set to SONA back in June, lots of harder prog and trance which I still think defies any categorization. I probably recognized only 4 or 5 tracks total throughout the night, and I'm assuming the majority was unreleased material. (sweet remix of Rapture!)

I loved the "rock star" encore where he made the crowd wait 5 minutes before throwing on another track, just to build up the anticipation. Worked like a charm.

Anyhow, rolling into the office at 9am this morning was rough, but TOTALLY worth it. The Guvernment has really outdone itself for this 5 year anniversary.

No Mark played Xpander just before PVD came on. Hearing that on the PHAZON WAS UNBELIEVABLE!

And who says trance is dead??
Everyone was going off to every single track he threw down.

I had a terrible case of gutrot come 3am though...dammit!

humbug...

I wasn't indoors, thank god for small miracles. I was flyering but we heard it all outside. It was all in all predictable sit-down-on-floor-backrub-vaporub-and-lightshow trance.

I'm jaded about the Guv crowds, can ya tell?

Not exactly a warm-up tune! I would love to hear this on the Phazon though.

That and "Heaven Scent".

Maybe Mark will play one/both on Saturday. He's supposed to play "classic Guvernment favourites", so I'm looking forward to some full-on trance.

Paul Van Dyk put on quite the performance last night -- impecable mixing combined with hearing some of his new remixes live just totally made my night. His last date here in February was a dissapointment for me to say the least -- however he more than redeemed himself to the Toronto fans. He played quite a number of tracks from his upcoming The Politics Of Dancing - hearing Connector - Interference on the phazon system at Guvernment was a crystal clear moment.

The set was just over 3 hours long and did not include any sleeper tracks - catchy basslines were prevalent with some mixing tricks to boot. I previously looked at his "Live at Home, London" set from April 2000 as his best ever post-1999 set - this has since changed.

At the end of his set he signed autographs/shook hands for about 5 minutes - a lot of people made their way out of the club at this point - however those that remained kept chanting "One more track!" etc. and unlike the weak attempt by the crowd to get Mauro Picotto to play one more back in July this time the crowd was loud and resiliant - their reward for an encore was none other than For An Angel. The last time he spun that track in Toronto was at Industry in June of 1999, only then the crowd was barely 200 strong by the end of his set - a lot of people first got to know of PVD for the popularity this track garnered him - it was surreal looking around at the crowd as the track was spun.

For those of you in Toronto that didn't make it out last night ya missed out big time -- I met people that came from Ottawa & Montreal specifically for this and it was well worth the trip. It is too bad that all these good events seem to be garbled all together - not to downplay Tiesto on Saturday night - he was good - but did not compare to PVD.

He played Refined Intricacy? I think so too, probably the remix but I only have one copy, a 12 minute version that is so sweet..

Ok here's some other tracks he played:

Ashtrax - Digital Reason (PVD Rework)
Connector - Interference
Timo Maas - Killin Me
ActiveX - Let's Go
DJ Pure - Definition
Walter & Gelder - Section O
Solid Sleep - Club Attack (Pvd Remix)
Dreamland - Nu Nrg
King Of Clubs - Revelation (Airwave Remix)
Signum - In Progress

...as for him playing the U2 remix of elevation, I don't remember that - but if he did play it, then it's good that I don't remember.

Hard Bangin' progressive with a taste of trance & breaks... what more could you ask for?
