Vise, no, that's wrong. He's not that expensive at all. By himself with MC Conrad, yes but as a part of the Progression Sessions tour, he's quite cheap. But he's NOT any more expensive than say Goldie, Adam F, J Majik, Fabio, Grooverider or DJ Craze, and promoters were able to bring the above guys in.
The reason why he's not able to come here is because Canadian authorities keep denying him the working visa. He's tried 3 times since the last time he was here in 1999 and they keep denying it, based on the previous files.
If someone knows Bukem personally, they can just bring him as a friend for a visit (so he won't have to tell the immigration officers that he's coming over to work). I'm sure that's how the Syndicate guys get some of the UK DJ's over.
Last year I brought Alaska & Paradox of Reinforced and he just told the customs that he's going to stay @ my house and work on music, so they let him in.
As far as Bukem's music goes, if you expect to see the good Bukem of old, don't even bother. The stuff he plays now is pretty much wattered down quazi jazz two step. (just like everyone else). His sets all sound the same, the beats don't change. It's like an hour of "BOOM CHICK tsk tsk BOOM CHICK" with rhodes, horns, saxophones and weak 808 basslines.
He still throws an ocassional atmospheric track or a deep amen roller but compared to what he used to play before, it's not the same. Just listen to Progression Sessions LIVE (the latest) and compare it to Progression Sessions 3 for example. Totally two different things. If you wanna hear real futuristic atmospheric stuff - you should be going to see Future Engineers or Blame when they're over here (and they will be).
Those guys are taking the atmospheric sound to the next level.
Also, come down to Audiowerks this Friday. I'll be throwing down some of the latest atmo bizness with Quasar.

this guy has lots of dubs. he's been around for a long time. so we let him play. that's the breakdown of the booking process for djs. fascinating, isn't it?
wizard ::: gamma ray :::
the mastermind behind gamma ray records, toronto's new d'n'b imprint and canada's only outlet for deep, futuristic breakbeat bass, is guaranteed to bring forth lots of unreleased next level cuts from here and abroad. watch out for wizard's forthcoming release on good looking records. hotcha!
quasar ::: gamma ray, splinter :::
you know how there's violent resistance and passive resistance and how they both deal with matters in their own way? well, if c64 is violent resistance and molotov cocktails and balaclavas, then his alter ego quasar is all seminars and conferences and sit-ins. in other words, elevation and progression.
