CONTRACT POSITION

The Canadian Research Institute for the Advancement of Women (CRIAW) is currently seeking a Program Officer for a 10 month contract, (September 2006 to June 2007). CRIAW is a national non-profit feminist research organization which provides research and tools to facilitate organizations taking action to advance social justice and equality for all women.

Responsibilities
The Program Officer will be involved in several activities linked to the operationalization of CRIAW’s strategic plan (2004-08) which has as its focus Economic and Social Justice: Overcoming Women’s Poverty and Exclusion. Our analysis is carried out within intersectional feminist frameworks.

CRIAW will be organizing a national forum (spring 07) on alternative approaches to women’s economic and social justice. The Program Officer will be responsible for outreach and liaison; facilitating the work of several volunteer committees (ie. selection committee, logistics committee etc.) as well as drafting funding proposals linked to the forum.

The incumbent will also have responsibilities linked to communications and outreach. These include, but are not limited to, writing press releases on CRIAW’s behalf, attending coalition meetings as required, involvement in the development and eventual delivery of workshops on intersectional feminist frameworks, coordinating and drafting articles for the CRIAW newsletter and working on CRIAW’s virtual clearinghouse on women’s poverty and exclusion.


Qualifications for this position include the following:
• Knowledge of women’s economic and social justice issues, more specifically within intersectional feminist frameworks; this will normally be based on a University degree plus two to three years related work experience; • Excellent organizational skills; • Ability to conceptualize, plan, develop, implement and evaluate a public event; • Ability to coordinate the work of volunteer advisory committees and contract employees; • Demonstrated experience with feminist research, women’s equality-seeking groups and NGOs; • Ability to multi-task and coordinate the work of several committees; • Excellent writing and communications skills in English and a good working knowledge of French, other languages considered an asset; • Capacity to work in a close knit team and with working committees; • Demonstrated ability to work under tight timeframes.

The salary for this four day a week, 10 month contract position, is $31,200 (the annual full-time equivalent would be $37,000).
