Though I am not a huge fan of prime stuff I can say that Samuel Sessions did a few tight tracks, and the method 11 11 tracks I think were disto'd through them to. I could be wrong on the method stuff.

I had a ton of chances to pick up those method 11:11 records.. and I never did!!

I saw something intresting at 2TheBeat today.
It was a record called SAY NO TO PRIMATE
I listened to it (and ended up buying it) and its pretty fucking cool. Experimental- minimal- glitchy- synthy.. in other words everything mr.winnik wants. I recomend it to just about all of you here. Its awsomer than anything ive heard on primate in the past few years.

One label cannot kill a whole genre... c'mon now.

they would have to have such a stronghold of the market...like microsoft in the record biz or something like that.

hoojchoons, the old label for prog house was really big and had a lot of influence in their best years.
they did have some influence but hardly the influence that the guy who started this thread is talking about.

1. Prime was a distributor of over 100 labels, they controlled what went to press and when for each label under their wings. If they didn't like your stuff, they could simply push you back and make up an excuse, they did indeed have a monopoly.

2. Prime also operated several of their own labels (Primate, Primary, Primevil, Endangered Species) for which you could find at least one new release almost every week. This helped them dominate and influence what they thought the world wanted to hear. The diversity in techno pre-Prime was otherworldly in comparison with what happened after Prime came into being.

There were of course other more local influences that affected different worldwide cultures in similar ways ie. the introduction of techno into clubs in Canada, and alcohol consumption etc.

Like I said when we initially began hearing rumours of Prime dying. Good riddance! And lets hear what someone else besides Sims is producing.

Because of reasons Todd keeps mentioning, it's actually healthy for a 'scene' to lose a distributor now and then. clears out the clutter and maeks room for new stuff.

Intellinet died. granted it wasn't huge but it wasn't too worrisome

7th City died (as a distro) and we all seem to have survived that as well. I believe 7th City carried more labels than Prime did too(could be wrong, just what I've read).

exactly.

People always freak out when distributors
go down.. but there's ALWAYS someone
else new or already established to take its
place.
