The contentiousness about JP applies to most things people disagree on but let me educate everyone so we don't go about our days ignorant. 2 opposite things can be true for anything. The JP stuff is years old and he won and C-16 passed so that won and nobody is going to jail for whatever reason so that is nice.

A great example are the safe injection sites. Yes they save lives (and save $$$ on EMS, spread less disease, let specialists work rather have a fireman work, idetify bad batches etc) but yes they lessen the surrounding areas (DTES is shameful, Victoria Street in Toronto is becoming shitty).

    This is a bodying:

Is there a basis of evidence you have beyond anecdotal? I'd like to see a proper study that controls for potential confounding factors on what the impact of an SIS is on a neighbourhood. Speaking to someone involved in addiction research and SIS in particular recently this is a type of years long, proper study that doesn't really exist - one way or the other.

One interesting question might be - how do you know that your perceived "reduction" in quality of life in some areas of town wouldn't have been even worse without the SIS? For all we know Vancouver's East Side would be way worse without the SIS. What causal relationship is there between an SIS and the condition of a neighbourhood?

A study with proper controls and ability to tease out confounding factors would help you become more confident in what you claim about an SIS and its impact on a surrounding area. The studies I've seen from Australia, BC and Europe all point to serious advantages for taxpayers and disease morbidity and the reservoir of disease in addict populations - but these claims in yellow journalism on SIS are more about "what its going to do to the neighbourhood!" and here all we have to go on are "I betchas" and anecdotes.

I would assume since disease and death get better with an SIS in place there are positive impacts to consider from having one in a neighbourhood to consider as well.

I'm reminded of the woman who went viral online for asking why they put deer crossing signs where they do - why encourage the deer to cross there?

The signs go where the deer already are dummy!

    That’s a pile of rubbish.

...and you ain’t educating anyone on anything, son. You’re just posturing on absolute nonsense here. Web-educated, populist pap, through and through. There’s not a single shred of empirical evidence that supports what Peterson is saying there or what you’ve chosen to hold up as an example. Not a shred. The basic, verifiable facts are completely contrary. You’re simply regurgitating the conjecture associated with NIMBYism. Worry not. You’re in excellent company.

This present “Freedom of speech” blabber goes right in the same shit-bin.

Peterson, Thompson (or whatever fucking pseudonym he’s using at the moment) and the rest of these self-serving maggots are all cut from the same cloth. ...and those without the desire to comprehend reality - outside their comfy little bubbles - lick it up and pass it on. NOBODY is silencing anyone. You’re free to think, say and stand by whatever nonsense you perceive as reality. Same rules for EVERYONE. Guaranteed.

The bullshit part comes in at the point where cognitively sound, rational individuals push back with the truth. THAT’S when the cries of oppression come out. You have an absolute right to spew garbage. ...but I have the right to call you out for your bullshit. That’s the true beauty of our entrenched rights and codified law!

It’s pretty simple really. Right across the board.

The language employed on immigration, by the supporters of alt-right propaganda is telling. Muslims, Jews and refugees on social assistance are threatening the existence of “white-people” and the neighbourhoods they inhabit. Pick a fucking agenda. Are you against Islam and Judaism and for Christianity? ...or are you just xenophobic and against all people that aren’t white? ...or just those from certain regions? Which is it?

What’s the root of your whinging?

Get a clue. Take a breath. Try to focus. ...and if you can manage an empirically backed, semi-literate presentation of your views - feel free to share with the class.

At the moment, you’re in time-out for having nothing to say and saying it much too loud.

You read the book? I skimmed it for shits and giggles.

Sure, Peterson has a best-seller that caters to the semi-literate who don’t care for books - but will devour his wee tome because their whiny, comparably daft social media friends shared a link. It’s not even accidental enlightenment. It’s nothing more than an internalized defence of wilful blindness.

...and the fact that you’re holding up his fame and monetary success as a benchmark for his message? I don’t even know how to respond to that. If that’s your litmus test between the truth and absolute bullshit, I don’t have a rope long enough to pull you out of the rabbit hole.

I've only seen and heard a bunch of oversimplification from his side. Is there some sort of real depth I've missed?

Zero, despite the depth of the rabbit hole.

Where do I sign up to follow some PhD who wrote a self help book and send him money so he can live a luxurious life?

Am I allowed to Jerk off? Or Nah?

Dime a dozen online. ...and you’re good to go on the tug. It’s pretty much mandatory.

I hear you! Bit too centrist liberal for my political tastes (I'd make Marx look like a Tory! :p) but ach, she's good people!
Her major was political science so she's quite well-known for expertly deconstructing the bullshit 'pseudo-academia' of the alt-right etc

Agreed. The great thing about her is that she’s got the pols/philosophical ammunition to make her case and a knack for delivering it with a spoonful of sugar. Most folks don’t have the slightest clue how we arrived where we’re at. Nor are they interested. She’s got the pop delivery down and may actually inspire curiosity. IMO, curiosity is something that the greater populace are missing out on. ...and it’s a heck of a motivator! :)

  21. I find that he's someone that approaches the idea of personal responsibility with a prone to oversimplify prude's point of view, peppered with a lot of half baked quasi Evangelical fundamentalism.

Much like Rob Ford with transit - he's taking on an issue that does need to be addressed (in Peterson's case, the debate between individual freedom vs. individual responsibility), and handles it with an broad brushing, angry, narrow and turgid train of thought (pun not intended)

I honestly don't think he realises how dumb this suit is -does he even understand how defamation works?
Anti-SLAPP? That you can't be held liable for 'opinion'?

Or that it was the TA who publicised the recording (taken without consent) who is being opened up to multiple lawsuits with his bullying attempt?- because it really looks like he doesn't.

I hope it is incredibly costly for him, and ultimately leads to him fucking the fuck off to never darken the public discourse again with his "What If Tony Robbins was confused and a nazi enabler?" grift.
