Music's a double edged sword, cuz its so damn pivitol to the enjoyment level of a night out. Had Pappa been on on Friday, the night would have been perfect. Cuz other than his less-than-impressive "set", I had fun hanging out with that Tribe thing.
I don't know what I was thinking when I intended to get some sleep at Chrissy's before jumping in my car for Montreal. Cuz my god, there were just too many distractions.
Anyway, this thread is dedicated to Montreal, cuz that's what my weekend was really about.
Drove up with my friend Ash and Sue (Tribe's own super-cutey Neva_Far) - to nice tunes and hilarious post-party-cracky-talk.
After pulling into the city, I got that crappy "holy fuck I miss this place, what the hell am I doing not living here anymore?" feeling. Then the feeling just got worse and worse, cuz it got better and better.
We were supposed to meet up with Ash's 20 girlfriends from Vancouver, but their clocks were already messed from the 3 hour time change, and only 4 of em came out. But that was ok, cuz a group of 27 was just going to be really hard to fit into a cab.
Sue dressed to the nines and made us all feel like the sewer rats that we are, but it didn't matter, cuz everyone goes topless at Stereo anyway, right?
Warmed up at Stereobar, and then headed up for the MUCH anticipated arrival of Peter Rauhofer. He's one of those guys whose reputation is bigger than life, so expectations were understandably up-there. (for the initiated or uninformed )
Stephane Gaudin warmed up the almost homogenous homosexual crowd beautifully. (I say "almost" cos I was there along with maybe 50 of the hottest straight girls you've ever seen in your life) Then Rauhofer took the decks and he just blew my fucking mind apart with the sex oozing out of the speakers. It was mayhem in there. I was almost completely sober, on no sleep since thursday, and after driving to Montreal most of the afternoon saturday, I was having trouble explaining my intense energy level. Whatever, Rauhofer made me do it. At one point, my friend Steve took me in the booth and we watched him work for a while - the man is a genius.
The hardest thing was leaving Stereo at just 8am, to get *some* sleep before the drive back to Toronto....I'm sure I missed 6 hours of the dark dirty funk that he was starting into when we were coatchecking.
...anxiously awaiting my next trip to the mecca of music...
