Pete Tong @ 5ive (Big DJ style)

I can never get enough of these mid week treats. I wish the crowds that show up to these parties would go to the same clubs and parties on the weekend.

Place was rammed and had a great vibe to it. Beautiful men (yes beautiful) and women. I was in awe for most of the night at the sites I was seeing. I must have turned to my buddies and said 'oh, my god look at that' several times an hour. Smiles all around, it was great.

I don't know who opened up the night, but I thought he did a nice job of warming it up and getting everyone grooving. When Pete Tong came on around 1am ish (I think), the place was pretty hyped. I had seen him once before in Montreal at Cream, but only caught the tail end of his set because he was the first DJ to spin of a barrage of other insane int'l DJs. A couple of friends who went down to WMF said he was wicked when they saw him.

I found Tong's set to be nice, but on the 'mellower' side of things. No complaints on the track selections or mixing. I was just happy to be out, have a drink in hand and check out the sites around me. :) I stayed til 2:30 ish and the party was still going strong.

A nice night all around, and no headaches this morning. I'd to hear what others thought of the music, because I was so, um, distracted. :D

Lisa/Metal Morphosis, sorry I didn't catch you last night. Although you were confident it would work out, I had a feeling it would be chaotic in there. Next time. :)

Take care,
T

I had a good time last night, I got in around 1:00am...what time did Tong start last night??? He finished his set at around 3:15 and they turned on the lights thereafter...I thought Tong's set was OK, I actually liked it more ALOT for a short period of time between around 1:30-2:15...where he played some REALLY REALLY UPLIFTING HOUSE!!! All in all a good night, im glad I went out...id go see Tong again...

and oh yea he played "Lazy" twice last night in a span of like an hour and a half whats up with that...???

Holy Crap.
what a fun night.

Crowd was great, although i did feel somewhat inadequate due to the large amount of silicone at this event.

Got there around 9ish, inside by 10:15, thankfully it was warm out. Benson and Hedges handed out 2 drink tickets apiece - free entry and free drinks - why didn't more of you tribers go???

Myka warmed the place up with some decent house.

Nice to see Max Graham out for his own birthday celebrations.

Tong can't mix to save his life but the track selection was indeed fantastic.
Some of the highlights - remix of Prince 'i would die for you'
U2 - the streets have no name
Seal - Killer
amongst others

Thanks to xtollo for being my partner in crime.

It was nice to see 5ive (the physical space) FINALLY get used for what it can! I have always liked the design... the extra visuals spiffed it up nicely and brightly! The sound system has always been wicked there - even if it goes mostly unappreciated and played too loud every weekend :( It was so refreshing to hear no diva, circuit beats on it, while the club was packed! (Yes Bois... there are other sounds out there.)

And was it all that bad partying with girls and fully clothed boys? :)

I had a good time, even if it was just another "real-time, interactive, cigarette commercial".

ps. Drew... I hope it was worth getting bumped! Can you live up to that next Wed.?
pps. Happy b-day Max!

All right, I will admit I was terribly wrong about the Big DJ.....I had heard from a few people it was Oakenfold and I'm generally a trusting person so I believed them....Don't hate me for being gullible!!

One of the best nights out evar! I aint bullshitting either. Tong was incredible. Mixing was sub par but thats because he was mixing completely difference genres of music. Not to mention 3+ tracks from the 80's. I had an incredible night, great laughs, and the crowd was going off like crazy.

I LOVE YOU BENSON & HEDGES.

Good night?

Well, than ks to Benson & Hedges for a very good night. I for some reason thought t he line up was gonna be crazy so decided to show up for this one at 8:30. Have been going to 5ive now for over a year and the thought to finally hear a quality DJ was something I did not wanna miss.

2 free drinks once in the door, nice little bonus and the decor was exceptional. Everywhere I looked, smiles everywhere and I'll back the earlier reply of hot boys as well. :D Myka did an excellent jon opening the night with some uplifitng beats near the end of his set and had th e crowd going nuts for Pete when he came on. I have to say my f av part of Pete's set was proabbly the first hour. I felt the remainder of the set was very soft but still had go od spirit.

It is unfortunate that 5ive cannot be used to itys potential. Last night showed that real party people really do appreciate the space but nobody wants top hear the usual ciccuit screaching of the weekends. But I can understand why managementr will not change their weekends as the place is full catering to the scene queens who strive on dancing to whitney remixes who wrnt out of style5 years ago. But to everyone th eir taste.

Thanks B&H, the fun crowd and to the little asian girl who looked like she was gonna kill herself dancing, sure had me pumped to do the same

Damn it, damn it! I so wanted to go there!
I ended up going to Tonic to see Krista and everyone else. It was an okay night, but I wanted to see Tong so bad. :(

Glad you all had fun.

NO FUKIN SHIT?

This has to be one of the greatest songs ever by prince. It's actually a melody on the Purple Rain album that goes from "I would die for you", to "Baby I'm a Star".

How was the Qtip remix?

I'm trying to live by the motto that if you have nothing good to say about something then don't say anything.

So that's what i'm gonna do about this event.

Peace,

Well, I thought the night was incredible. I've had that prince song in my head for the last 2 days, I'm starting to think he's a genius.

The Q-Tip remix was strange as hell, his rapping was sped up like 10, weird chipmunk style. hah

Maui, not even the drink tickets? No cover? The fact that it was a wednesday? The crowd? Oh well, I'm sticking to my 'good time" theory. Boo yah

the guy wore a curry rice shirt.

you can't beat that.

oh and i think he played layo and bushwacka! - untitled (end)
which is on my slacker Breathe promo disk vinyl addict.

the only part that left me disappointed that we didn't hear pete's radio voice.

would have been nice to hear him say "hello toronto" or something like that.
