WOW what a refreshing night. I rarely go out now, 3 maybe 4 times a year and the last few times out have been HORRIBLE. The crowds Tiesto pulls are just gross, and even tho moby was good the crowd was beyond sketcy. Last night made up for all of that, no shirtless gino's, only two or three peeps with sunglasses on, geat up for it fun interesting group of people dancing their asses off. Mark Oliver started off his set for the first hour amazing then just dropped it down to some really boring ass crap in the hour leading up to PVD. PVD came on around 1am and came our HARD. I am REALLY liking his sound lately, he sometimes plays too Hard or too soft but seems to have really found the nice middle ground. Still can't get into the laptop stuff but whatever I guess I am old school (LOVED seeing moby play vinly a few months ago). PVD played a good solid 3 hours and we danced out butts off. Kool Haus is simply the best venue in the city for a big show like that, there is always room to dance and the sound system and staff are amazing.

i wasn't sure if it was going to be a good night..... considering he hasn't hit T-dot in over four years...... but wow it's nice to hear some of those songs again....

I rate it second best PVD set in t.o.

could of been one the best live trance pa's i've ever seen.

2 laptop's, midi....and whatever else he was running. i think that could of been his best set in toronto to date.

Here's what I thought.

I'm glad I went, because there were some great moments in the night, and the place really went off.. but for the most part it was an uninspired set, the mixes were shaky, and he played the same slow and boring remix of "for an angel" twice!

I had fun dancing, but it wasn't even comparable to seeing above and beyond or ferry corsten. For the most part, PVD seemed like he didn't want to be there, and he wasn't connecting with the crowd.

To me it felt as if I had gone to a club that played trance, and not to see a world class dj.

Marcin

bottom line.. had a fun night, but it might as well have been dj danny d up there.

I had fun, got talked into going Sat nite, glad I did. I couldn't belive the energy in that room for the three hours that he was on....also dissapointing that it was only 3 hrs....great company, no pushy people, room to dance..
great and efficient door, coat check....wow...have the door/staff actually changed for the better. My balls didn't even get cupped...LOL.

Head bouncer at the lineup goes to me

"hey, how much have you had to drink?" (my eyes were red, just smk a blunt)
I respond "nothing"

bouncer "how big was the blunt?"

I respond "pretty big"

Bouncer "Have fun"

Was PVD on for only about 3 hours?

I thought it was a decent night, but his music lacked energy. I found Ferry at 11th to be much much more interesting. PVD had a few too many slow parts, I felt like I was doing Waltz with some chick for half the time he was on. In fact, I liked Mark Oliver at the begining more than PVD (yeah yeah, flame on). At least with Oliver I broke a sweat.

Also, at the beginning of PVD's set he had a few blips and glitches, and sometime close to 4 music just died for like 5 seconds. No idea what went on, was at the chillout area.
People say that PVD hates TO, I thought it was BS but last night makes me believe this.

LOL...yes he hates toronto so he deliberatley screwed up a mix and only played songs from his B crate.

Did anyone who went notice a distict difference in the sound system when PVD was on versus Mark Oliver?

Maybe it was just different EQ presets?

Oliver sounded harder/bassier, where as PVD was softer.

Charles was even up on stage at one point when PVD was getting going... I think they were fine tuning things after mark oliver. You gotta love the fact that he's up there checking up on things but, speaking of Charles...

I wish he'd do something about the smokers. Bad enough that some smokers (nicotine, pot, whatever) are irrespectful enough to light up inside, but when security does nothing about it, it's extremely annoying. It may be hard to monitor 2,000+people, but I didn't see the club make any effort to limit the smoking. There were several points when you could not escape the smokers... to the point I had to get out of the mosh pit dancefloor and try and find some air near the back. FUCKING DISGUSTING.

The sound was pretty good... PVD was good... but trance is something that needs to be experienced, as well as heard, and sadly, half the crowd just had no idea. Despite what others said, there were many pushy and rude people... to be expected at Koolhaus I guess, but still sad to see. If you caught PVD at Koolhaus 4/5 years ago at that Gold Club Benson and Hedges party (how ironic), you missed little this time around.

Fortunately I got a dancing fix the night before when unexpectedly ending up at CiRCA to find Hatiras rocking it out!

really suprised to hear you say this. I was simply amazed at how cool the crowd was. I didn't see a single shirtless roid head all night, maybe one or two people wearing shades, lots of room to dance and nice friend smiling faces of every age group (from early 20's to late 30's) everywhere. Best crowd I have seen at a guv/kook haus party ever maybe. And i was at the last 3 pvd shows, anyway interesting how different perspectives can be depending on where you are dancing.

the front speakers stacks on the side of the stage were cutting in and out....i think the soundtech's weren't paying very close attention to the levels that night....
