A friend went and saw it last night and he came into work today with three points:
- The other robots are not in it enough
- All the monsters, despite looking slightly different, fight the same
- Giant fighting robots break too easily
he gave 3/5
I will see it but I do not have hopes of having my fanboy hunger satisfied.

Haven't seen it yet, but Gian Ghomeshi recently interviewd the director (Guillermo del Toro) if you'd like to get more info.
Online reviews are stellar. I heard a movie reviewer critique on CBC radio this morning, the woman was practically raving about it and said that this one is worth 3D IMAX.

i'm sorry if you're looking for home here, but that's where it seems to be for you.
Friend dragged me to see the 3D IMAX version. We got seats too close to the screen. It was like being in a fish bowl. The movie was plotless, dull and noisy. After about half an hour, it was also incredibly nauseating.
Don't get me wrong. I love this genre. So, instead of rating this film, I'll group it with similar films for comparison.

I loved this movie so much and now I'm going to go to bed and hopefully dream that I am spooning a giant jaeger on top of the carcasses of several kaiju.
