Orbital @ Opera House

I waited 10 years to see Phil and Paul perform live, and the show that Orbital put on was well worth the wait. Tight, intimate venue ... amazing vibe from the crowd, and amazing energy from the boys on stage. Every track they played was amazing, but my personal favourites were The Girl With The Sun in Her Head, Funny Break, Chime, and of course Halcyon, especially since they did their rendition that included the Bon Jovi samples. Thanks so much to Emerge for booking a Toronto date on Orbital's North American tour. It's something I definately will never forget.

Shout outs to all the TBK that was there representin' - Chickpea, Girl Friday, @m, k.f., stargurl, Loress, and most importantly, my lil brother Steve that made the night all the more special.

Ah shit. How is it possible to forget Satan in there? UNBELIEVABLE! The best visuals of the night by far!

So amazing to see these guys in an intimate venue - if it wasn't for all the lasers I would have felt like I was back in someone's basement in high school

Oh. My. God.

I took over 350 pictures (digital and film).
After four years I finally got to meet steve of www.loopz.co.uk.
After four years I got to see Orbital again.

And you know what? I think I'm getting on a bus to Detroit tomorrow to do it all again.

Review to follow after some sleep.

Wow. Best $25 I've ever spent.
Futronic, I think I was standing next to you, front row centre, for the whole show. I remember you mentioned having been waiting 10 years for this.
If that was you, I certainly hope you post the pictures of those drunk girls making out....

Were you the guy with the red hoodie on to the left of me?

And those two crackers near the left speakers were funny as hell. Whacked out on god knows what. haha.

Yeah, that was me with the red hoodie. My favourite part was when the blonde one screamed "I want you to fuck me until I die!".
I think she likes Orbital.

I had a good time, the tunes were all top-notch and the lightshow was better than I expected too. The song with the pacman animation in the background was really cool. I'm not a big fan of the heavy metal influenced tracks (Satan is a good track, but I can easily do without the 80's guitar solo), but there was only a couple anyway. I liked the encore (which was a good half hour) better than the main set though. Chimes, Dr. Who, etc... it was pumpin'!

I got kind of tired standing in the crowd, but I just hopped up on a makeshift ledge at the back of the dancefloor and had a nice seat where I could see over the tops of everyone's heads! Very nice (and comfortable).

Definitely worth the $25. Now when are the Chemical Brothers coming?

What a -fun- night...I went with two friends and we hung out at the front of the balcony. The lights were so beautiful and amazing...I was a little hypnotized by them, I think.

The crowd had such a good vibe and the Hartnolls were so energetic and great to watch. I like watching performers who seem to enjoy themselves.

Can someone post a setlist? And anyone know where to find Orbital merchandise online (hopefully the current shirts will appear sometime)?

Yeah it was good to finally meet Steve after checking out the website for many years.

And those two girls ... hahaha. No offence, but they were "dirties". The one was trying to take her top off and get on stage to rush Phil.

sweet show.

my favorites were the girl with the sun in her head & belfast for the most beautiful, and satan & dr. who for the intensity.

I loved the atmosphere created here, with state-of-the-art lighting and the wonderful and trippy panels that formed the back of the stage. The panels were large white squares that had nine spheres (the front 1/4 protruding) seemingly imbedded and arranged in a matrix. They were hung one over the other, and a motor on top of each string of panels allowed each to spin. I especially liked the twin flashlight head-pieces that Orbital wore on the darkened stage, giving the appearance of spotlight eyes, and allowing the crowd to see their enthusiasm projected in the bouncing beams.

A great show, the highlight of which was definitely hearing Dr. Who in the encore. I almost cried when it started. What made the night memorable apart from the band's great perfomance was seeing so many respected friends, like Dan, Lloyd, Jarod, Andrew, Jeremy, Elle, Erica. Thanks all for a great night!

Actually the flashlights they wear are to see the equipment and communicate with one another, i.e. - turn THAT channel up a bit, etc.

definately - the front of the balcony was the place to be - set up camp at the end of the opening act's set, and didnt leave that spot all night, nor did I even care to - great view, and room to move to boot - rather than go into a dissertation of how good it was, i'll just break it down into 3 words:
Best. Show. Ever.

Well slap my ass and call me suzy... Orbital served up some tasty beats last night. Nothing but sick tracks from these guys. Having every CD that they've released (I'm pretty sure, anyway), it was nice to hear them play different versions of all their songs, dropping in sick new breaks overtop of already crazy precussion, and jamming on the melodies. The highlight of the night for me was their deep and dirty rework of Chime. Man, that encore was almost as long as the main performance!

Fuckin 'ell, mate. Gotta check these guys out again very soon!!

I didnt really know what I was getting into. I've only got one Orbital cd... and it in no way prepared me for what I experienced last night! There was a bit of everything!! all perfectly combined together...a little breaks, trance, pop, rock, techno, hardcore, step, house... I couldnt stop dancing! the bon jovi/belinda carslile mix was pure fun and totally twisted... I wasnt sure what was goin on... then SATAN and the one right after that... I was going fucking nuts!! perfukd... soooo much fun. of course... looking around I thought maybe I was totally lost or something... sure looked like a rock concert crowd in there.

confused.gif
there didnt seem to be much to look at... why so many people were just standing and watching the stage is beyond me... I guess to each his own... we started down in front of the stage, realizing it required too much concentration to avoid hitting people and stepping on toes we moved out by the t-shirt table for some breathing room...

anyhow... my camera was dead...

lookin forward to seein ur pictures stargurl

wicked show!!

Due to other committments I wasn't sure I could make it out to Orbital until Monday. Praise Be that there were still tickets available.

What a great night. Old-school crowd; killer music that spanned a decade; excellent production values.

The set list someone posted on here prior to the show didn't include Halcyon + On + On, so I was a bit bummed going in thinking I wouldn't be hearing my fave. But there it was. Would have enjoyed it more without the BonJovi/B.Carlyle bit — even though it was pure cheeky brilliance.

Definitely Oribital moves into my top 5 live shows ever along with Electric Skychurch, Underworld, Dubtribe & Chemical Brothers.

I'm wondering how people heard of this show, as I know that there was very little promotion done for it that I saw. I heard that it was listed in NOW, and I found out via Ticketmaster when I checked out tix for Tiesto and PVD. I didn't see a single posting or flyer for the show... and yet many seemed to show up for this. How did people who went find out? Am I missing something?
