Its a busy work environment, people talking, etc, etc, doest bug me, but I have this women next to me that is constantly ragging on people to keep it down, what does she expect.

So whatever I dont want to rock the boat and am now wearing my earphones so I dont hear her complain, and she taps me and asks me to turn it down....Im wearing earphones I tell her...she says its bothering her....WTF...I cant even hear it when its off my head.

Anybody else have the same open office troubles LETS HEAR THEM!!!!!

I've got a nice barrier up between me and most of the rest of the office. I can see anyone coming before they can see my screen, so I can surf tribe all day unbeknownst to everyone. :)

But I can still hear the stupid people who check their mesages on speaker phone.

Having one annoying person sit next to you and speak so damn loud when she is on the phone with her friends when no one really wants to hear it.

Everytime she leaves her desk she gives you an update of what she is doing, like going to get a Printout when you REALLY DONT CARE!!!

Anywho... some people drive me crazy, and she is it.

I cant believe people get so bent out of shape about the printers, its like that here too, it gets nasty. Take a chill, you spend most of your life at work, might as well make it a little enjoyable for F__Cks sake!

Pet peeve: we have kindof open concept style cubes that form offices if you're against a window.

I have a corner office with two windows, but this one corner is open, so people can pretty much look to see if I'm busy, then walk in if I'm not.

Well, there's this new chick at work who was a Director of a company we took over. She was demoted to Specialist (like me) when they were integrated and she's pretty pissed because I'm her mentor (I'm in my 20's she's in her 50's). Anywhore, she has a facking cell phone (personal) that she always leaves at her cube (completely open concept) and it rings fucking constantly. And it's set to MAXIMUM BLASTING RADIUS.

On one occasion I'm meeting with a client and this bitch fucking answers her cell phone (for once she's at her desk) and marches right in to my office "because reception is bad" and she "needs a window".

I'm completely fucking incredulous at this point in time, and couldn't be rude to her in front of my client BUT WHAT THE FUCK?!?!

Needless to say, I tore a strip off her when my dude was gone, and the cellphone is no longer an issue.

I think there is a world of difference between the old school office types and us younger types, at least you can see it here and at my old job at CIBC.

I'm in the unfortunate position of redesigning our office to be open concept. Soon it's going to be nothing but work stations.

:( 'cause I'm losing my office.....

Yeah, the old people can't use computers to save their lives.

"No, the power button on your monitor is the power to your monitor. The power button on your PC turns the computer on and off."

cripes.

I'm in and open style office and no one bothers me. But, I don;t get bothered very easily. I probably bother everyone else though. I check my voicemail on speakerphone, I talk to my customers and friends on speaker phone. I talk really loud about gross things. I eat food at my esk all of the time. I don;t meet dress code I don't show up on time. But, I never get in trouble because me and my boss are good friends. plus I could have my own office if I want.but, I don't want one. There cold in the winter and hot in the summer because they have such big windows.

We're moving to a new building next week. I lost my nice little private space, and move to an open cube. Bah.

i've always been in an office until this most recent role...but i'm actually enjoying it...often in the office you can feel isolated from the team...i find the open concept (& i'm fortunate to work with some good people) to be ok...we share similar but not identical interests...however everyone in my little pod is about the same age so it works out ok...

& if all else fails just sit at your desk, take off your shirt & start working...(ps a true case i had to investigate)...

Sounds like I've got it pretty good at my open concept workplace. I work in an art dept so it's basically like this: One guy cranking out wicked indie rock tunes, one girl who plays jazz music when she gets the chance, one guy who listens to nerd techno (the Warp variety), and one guy who is a madonna addict (but that doesn't even bug me because he's supa gay so it's almost like a living cliche).

When we're not doing work we all gather around someone's machine and watch movie trailers, play multiplayer flash games, or discuss who has the greatest photoshop skills =)

Oh and I book my own hours.

Anyone jealous yet? :D

I guess I'm a lucky story, I work in an open concept office, and ever since this cool CEO guy took over the company it has really turned around.

He fired the only asshole in the office who was making everyone's life misreable. He got everyone new desks cuz our old ones were falling apart, renovated the place, and he built me my own private sound recording booth.

Everyone in my side of the office is cool with eachother and we don't disturb anyone. Everyone that worked on phones all day was moved into an adjacent office.

Since then, moral is up, and productivity is waaay up. It's so funny, one day he even told me he wanted to go to one of those "RAGE" parties to see what they're like.

hahaha.

I've almost done that when they touch my monitor.

Old bat: "yes dear, I'll show you, THIS [touches screen] is the number I want you to change for me."
me: [winces]
OB: "Dearie me, I nearly forgot this whole area too [mashes greasy hand across half of monitor]"
me: [reaches for desk lamp]
