so in the term cosplay, the 'cos' refers to costume, and the 'play' to.... what? do you actually act out scenes from anime and games? those costumes are to good to not actually do anything with them. go to conventions i guess, but how often can you go to conventions, once or twice a year? how prevalent is kinky fetish anime role playing?

Cosplay, or kosupurei basically means "costume play." It used to be just Japanese anime/manga, but now is pretty much dressing up from any Asian source material. I like Korean MMOs myself.
There's at least a hundred cons in the US, and I try to make half a dozen or so, but my job's been preventing that lately.
I used to make costumes for sale, but stopped because of the stupid, stupid teen fanbase that expects something for nothing.
Cosplay porn is rampant, but not in this country. There's a shit ton of "girl puts on costume. Girl takes off costume. Girl gets banged by small-genitalia'd Japanese boy," if you want it.
Cons usually have a masquerade, where people can get judged, act out skits, whatever....but the role-playing usually doesn't happen. Most of us just like sewing and dressing up and having our pictures taken, but the standards are amazingly low since the fan base is so young.
As for my costumes, I either stick 'em in a closet or sell 'em after I retire them. There's too many new things to make.

there's a big anime convention in toronto in 2 weeks. i'd check it out (since a friend of mine's got a booth there), but we'll be leaving for the burning man festival that weekend for some REAL play with costumes.

I'm a burlesque dancer, I know all about the love of making fun costumes and dressing up! There's just a performance element to show off hte costumes as well.
