**Trade update!***

The Calgary Flames have dealt centre Jason Morgan and a draft pick for left winger Ville Nieminen from the Chicago Blackhawks.

***Also, the Phoenix Coyotes have fired head coach Bobby Francis.

Yep, and hopefully the Leafs brass smells blood.

Smith and Brewer would look good in blue and white.
Smith was in blue & white....many years ago....before the leafs dumped him for a bag of pucks in one of their many stellar trades....

Yup! becasue the Great Rick Ley didn't like his work ethic.
well after watching the leafs defence for the past 5 years(remember they were actully a pretty good defence team before quinn) I would have to say that Ley's work ethic isn't much to write home about.

I would not be surprised if Gonchar becomes a Leaf this week. I hope JFJ doesn't give up too much. I'd be happy if it's a propect plus a pick (I'll even throw in a Pilar or Berg), but I hope it's not a prospect, a young player ( a la Antropov, Poni, etc), and a pick that I am hearing. If the price is too steep I think they should go for someone else; Keith Carney would be a great addition.

Get rid of Kidd and the 2 most over rated leafs, Antropov(can't skate worth a shit and is all bang up) and Kaberla(scared of getting hit, and loves to give the puck away), for Kolzig,Gonchar, some cash towards Kolzigs's contract, and a draft pick.

Stajan isn't going anywhere,if he did get traded it better be for a player who can score 30 goals on a regular bases. This kid is going to be a good one.

Boston has jumped into the Gonchar race, offering Sergei Samsanov, a 1st round draft pick next year and possibly Jeff Jillson.

Should be interesting to see what happens. Samsanov still has a price that Washington probably doesn't want, but if they're offering Jeff Jillson, I'd pull that trigger.

Unless of course Toronto is actually offering Kaberle, Stajan and Antropov.

Often times the best trades are the ones you never make.

Gonchar is a good player. Not great. No need to give up too much for him.

No, he's not. The great Dmen are the Lidstroms, Blakes, Prongers. Gonchar is a rung below those guys.

The only person with more points then Gonchar the last six years is Lidstrom. Mind you Pronger has been hurt but he has been a more of a solid defensive defense men over the long run.

I agree he's not as good as Pronger, Blake, and Lidstrom, but that doesn't mean he's not great. Forsberg is great, that doesn't mean Sakic isn't, you know what I am saying? Gonchar will never be as physical as Pronger and Blake, and he is not as good defensively as Lidstrom. Gonchar has the second most points among defenseman since 98 or 99 (playing on not nearly as good of a team as the other three). He IS the best point man out there on the power play. You don't get players of this calibre that often.

Don't believe the hype. And don't forget that the Leafs are a team that takes lots of penalties. When you're shorthanded more often then you are on the power play, it might be better to have a strong defensive guy.

And Pete, I didn't say you can't have two great players on the team.

if I were the Leafs GM, I would definitely take Chris Pronger over Sergei Gonchar. The question is if he's available.

wow...if the Boston Globe is to be believed, my team is actually going to try and spend money on players and make a run for it!!?

Bruins reportedly offered Samsonov and a 1st-round pick for Gonchar, and a 1st-rounder and prospect for Leetch
