I'll never forget the shiner he had one PRIDE because his wife had socked him after it came out he had an illegitimate love child in South America. Or him sending street people from North York downtown when he was their mayor. Or offering to bus them to Buffalo later on as the mega city one. Or the W.H.O debacle, or the Savages of Africa line. He was really crazy.I remember sitting in the audience section at City Hall months b4 idance, watching the proceedings to get a lay of the land. There was maybe 6 people in the gallery. Lastman was saying crazy shit about something and I smiled. He stood up, pointed at me in the gallery and said "What are you smiling at?" which was kind of shocking to me but I smiled even more and he said it again in a more hostile way b4 moving his attention elsewhere. He was a dick.
Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Nobel Peace Prize laureate and veteran of South Africa's struggle against white minority rule, died peacefully today at 90, Reuters reports from Johannesburg.
Why he mattered: Tutu won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1984 for his non-violent opposition to apartheid. A decade later, he witnessed the end of that regime — and chaired a Truth and Reconciliation Commission, set up to unearth atrocities committed during those dark days.
The outspoken Tutu was considered the nation's conscience by both Black and white, an enduring testament to his faith and spirit of reconciliation in a divided nation.
In his final years, he regretted that his dream of a "Rainbow Nation" had yet to come true.
