The Disgruntled Passenger
The following true story took place on a British Airways flight
between Johannesburg and London.
A white woman, in her 50s was seated next to a black man.
It was obvious that she was disturbed by this and called the air Hostess.
"Yes Madam, how can I help you?", the hostess asked.
"You obviously don't see it then?" she responded,
"You placed me next to a black man. I refuse to sit next to
someone from such a repugnant group. Give me another seat."
"Madam, calm down", the hostess replied, "I believe that all the
seats on this flight are taken, but I'll and see if anything is
available."
The Hostess left and then came back a few minutes later.
"Madam, I'm afraid I was right, there are no available seats in the
economy class. I spoke to the captain and he informed me that
there are also no seats in the business class. However, we do
have one seat in first class."
Before the woman could say anything, the hostess continued.
"It is not our company policy to permit someone from economy
class to sit in first class. However, given the circumstances, the
captain feels that it would be scandalous to force a person to sit
next to someone so disgusting."
She then turned to the black man and said: "Therefore, Sir, if you
would please collect your hand luggage I'll show you to your seat
in first class."
On hearing the outcome of the situation, the other passengers,
who were shocked by what they had witnessed, stood up and
applauded.
The lesson to be learned from this true story: there is NO ROOM for racism.
