Shit man thats probably a tough repair if its not something simple. Maybe some resoddering can do it.

If not you're fucked. Maybe try a place adept in electronics/laptop repair, theres a chance common physical tricks can reseat the connections and make it work again.

If however, the HDMI port is fucked because the mobo is itself fucked, no amount of resoddering an HDMI connection on a mainboard is gonna do it! It also might be more technically challenging to repair these connections than others....

50/50 this can be fixed IMO

That's what my google searches came up with too. My other option is to get a smart tv that doesn't require hdmi connection. My Toshiba still works perfectly tho. I guess I could sell it...

Yeah HDMI ports are usually part of the motherboard, probably difficult to replace/repair. Do you have a VGA port? Get a VGA to HDMI adaptor.

Don't bother with smart TV, they are difficult to use. If you want to go the wireless route get a Chromecast.

Does anyone have any experience with ChromeCast? What's the picture quality like? Got a VGA adapter and the pic quality has degraded.

Yeah, Chromecast kicks ass. If it's tied to your chrome browser or netflix etc.

Can't go wrong. It only costs like $60 bucks.

It's full HD.

What is the model number of your Toshiba?

You wouldn't happen to have any DVI or Displayport or thunderbolt ports eh?

Any of these are digital while your vga adapter is basically converting the signal to analog, introducing some loss.

Looking for a new laptop is this good?

Looks good. I got my mother a laptop a couple months ago, and really what it inevitably comes down to for everyday use is how the screen looks (including glossy/matte finish), and how the keyboard sounds/feels.

Don't know if this helps...

I like Lenovo's for their use cases. Reliable, excellent keyboards, utilitarian.

Been through the dell and HP lot - had enough issues with HP that I don't think I can recommend them to anyone. Dell is hit and miss.

As much as I'm going to get flamed for this, the best laptop i've ever owned was my Macbook Pro. 8 years. Only one problem with the battery. Not a bad run. Don't know how they are now.

For home use I am a fan of the newer XPS line from Dell, as well as the newer M$ Surfaces. But both of those are the next tier up when pricing in a touchscreen.

I use a Lenovo t480 for work, and have no complaints.

I like the specs of that Yoga 730 13" I posted but I've read online there's a screen flickering issue with that model? Usually it's people with bad experiences that's the loudest but I am not sure if I should take the chance?

Also, is this a good time to get a laptop? Are there any features that are coming out in the near future that I should wait for? I know with tech I can't keep on waiting or I'll be waiting forever, but is there anything that'll be a game changer that's worth waiting for?

I am look for an intel i7, 16GB RAM (or better yet 8GB but upgradable), and with Thunderbolt*, and $1100 max. Most laptops I've seen at that price I can get two of the three features.

*do I really need Thunderbolt? If not, should I go with an AMD Ryzen 7?
