There's little doubt Hooky's a complete muppet, but he has every right to be... He's been the bassist and arguably 'the' sound behind two very influential bands. He plays the part of egotistical rock star very well. His book 'How Not To Run A Club' about the Hacienda is totally overblown and over the top.

As for the new album, I must say the band is showing it's age. There aren't really any standout tracks. It's not that the tracks are bad. It's just that they're not very good either. Lost Sirens is buried in mediocrity.

agreed. Lost Sirens wasn't nearly as yummy as it had been propped up to be. and IMO, New Order aren't smashing it nearly as much as Depeche Mode are.

Agreed. To be fair, this is the first released material from New Order in quite some time - and it contains what are effectively 'b' tracks from Waiting For The Siren's Call. It's my understanding the current lineup has been recording an album, but Hooky has done his best to block the release of it due to his objection of the use of the New Order name.

Bernard's Message to New Order's North American Fans
Sunday, July 28, 2013 at 9:33PM

I have just been diagnosed with a bone fracture in my leg. Don't worry I'm not going to cancel the North American tour. I wouldn't do that. It just means that when I go on stage I am in pain and physically unable to give it my all. It's frustrating and makes performing very difficult but I'm doing the best that I can and ask for your understanding of the situation. As I was leaving a hotel one of the doormen said "Break a leg" apparently that's just what I have done ouch! Thank you I hope y'all still enjoy the shows.

New Order have signed with long-standing independent label Mute Records.

The Manchester band have announced their next record will be released by Mute, though no further details on what will be their tenth studio album have been announced. However, label founder Daniel Miller has revealed that he heard some new material prior to signing the group.

"This is an exciting new chapter for both Mute and New Order and I feel privileged to be working with artists with such a long, creative and successful history," said Miller in a statement. "When the possibility of us working together first came up, I was invited to hear some of the new material and immediately had no doubts whatsoever that Mute would be the right home for New Order. We've already had a number of creative conversations, and I am looking towards an exciting future."

"New Order are delighted to be signing to Mute," added the band. "We couldn't imagine a better place to be than working with Daniel Miller and his team. Mute has a superb roster of artists and a history that complements our own. In many ways joining the label feels like we are coming home, returning to our independent roots."

Mute was established in 1978. The label has since released music by Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds, Wire, Depeche Mode, Goldfrapp and Erasure, among many others.

Yesterday (September 1), DFA Records denied reports that New Order are recording with former LCD Soundsystem man James Murphy. The band's frontman Bernard Sumner and bass player Tom Chapman had suggested in a interview that they could be set to work with the producer in the near future. However, a tweet sent by the New York-based label clarified that is not the case.

new Bernard Sumner autobiography out in the UK (no N.A. release yet)
xT2q1j7.jpg

Founding member and guitarist of Joy Division and the lead singer of New Order, Bernard Sumner has been famous over the years for his reticence. Until now. An integral part of the Manchester music scene since the late 1970s, his is the definitive version of the events that created two of the most influential bands of all time.

Chapter and Verse includes a vivid and illuminating account of Bernard's Salford childhood, the early days of Joy Division, the band's enormous critical and popular success, and the subsequent tragic death of Ian Curtis. Bernard describes the formation of New Order, takes us behind the scenes at the birth of classics such as 'Blue Monday' and gives his first-hand account of the ecstasy and the agony of the Haçienda days.

Sometimes moving, often hilarious and occasionally completely out of control, this is a tale populated by some of the most colourful and creative characters in music history, such as Ian Curtis, Tony Wilson, Rob Gretton and Martin Hannett. Others have told parts of the story, in film and book form. Now, for the first time, Bernard Sumner gives you chapter and verse

Gillian Gilbert was on the last tour. Her son required a lot of care when he was growing up. He has some condition (I forget which) and now that he's an adult I gather he's probably in adult care.
