is anyone familiar with
a) spas in the vancouver island area that are relatively easy to get to from BOWEN ISLAND?
b) best/easiest places to get to from bowen (with a car) that I could look at spas in?

seems like sunshine coast is close-ish, but requires two different ferries (snug cove to horseshoe, then horseshoe to langdale). any info from those familiar w. the area or local spas/resorts would be welcome, thanks.

I'd check Nanaimo/Parksville area on vanrock. You're guaranteed a two ferry trip each tho, there's no way around it.

I was just over on Bowen, the ferry back to Horsehoe bay is only about a 20 minute ride. Then from HB to the sunshine coast is another 40-45minutes. It would not be too painful as long as you don't get stuck in lineup for a boat.

I don't know about spa's, but if you do go to the sunshine coast, try to find some thing in Pender Harbour, it is a great little town.

The longer ferry rides aren't really even that bad given the scenery. You are in the best part of Canada, you know :)

Sara - what about just finding a place in West Vancouver? That way you only need to take one ferry to Horseshoe Bay - and then a quick 15 - 20 min car ride.

Unfortunately, I haven't been to any spas in west van - so I don't have any recommendations for ya - but you should be able to find quite a few in that area.

I'm actually looking for a good spa right now too (in vancouver) that's nice but not out of control pricey. Not the easiest of tasks it seems!

Went to this place called The Arie on my honeymoon. It was all awesome, all the time. Do not miss the wine tasting dinner.

The Arie's on the Island. It's the bitch's palace.

Really, it's apparently fantastic.

You do know that Vancouver Island isn't anywhere near Bowen Island right?

When you say spa do you mean a getaway resort type place where you stay, or just a spa where you get spa treatments?

There is a place north of Sechelt (sunshine coast) that looks like its a resort type spa.
http://www.tuwanekhotel.com/

Its 40 min from bowen to horseshoe bay, then 40 min ferry to gibsons, then a 30 min + drive to tuwanek.

I have never been there, but drove by it and it has an amazing location.

_____________
via google maps:
Driving directions to Nanaimo, BC from bowen island
67.0 km – about 2 hours 34 mins

Driving directions to Tuwanek, Sechelt, BC from bowen island
61.0 km – about 2 hours 12 mins

thanks everyone for the suggestions.

this is for a wedding gift - i think we may change tack due to prices and get them a gift certificate at a swank restaurant in vancouver instead since they can get to granville via water taxi from bowen.

so... this thread is now about great restaurants in vancouver. and nice hotels nearby since we may get them a night at a hotel so they don't have to trek back right after dinner.
