NBC & TBS = NO NBA

This sucks. I liked it when NBC showed games, especially their triple-headers on sundays. As for ABC picking up games, no comment. And TBS won't carry games as well, that sucks as well. For those of us (like myself) who don't have a satellite and such, how are we supposed to get TNT and ESPN? Yes, I do have RaptorsTV, but they show like 2 Raptors games a week. Let's just hope that CTV broadcasts whatever ABC (they usually follow NBC's lead) shows.

There is a positive side to it (for American viewers): An as-yet-unnamed new cable channel -- a 50-50 venture between the league and AOL Time Warner -- will have nearly 100 games, all but two in the regular season. That could be sweet.

So make sure that you watch the All-Star game this year (Philly), cos next year it'll be on TNT.

great games that go untellevised are annoying. Liverpool and ManU play at 3pm est today. But can you watch it? no.

The big downside to all of this is that we won't get to hear the catchy NBA on NBC theme song anymore.

Hopefully Conan O'Brien's idea of incorporating the song into other NBC shows takes off

That totally blows.

On the brighter side, this sounds like the final point in my "we need digital cable!" argument.

Luckily she likes basketball as much as me.

Graham! Indeed, it is a travesty that the greatest rivalry in sporting history (or in the top5) will not be broadcast.

However, if you are by a computer today, go to www.manutd.com and for three quid, you can see the whole 90 minute match right from when the teams enter the pitch. It is a new venture with United and Vodafone, the first of it's kind and it will become quite regular.

Or you can listen to the game on Century Radio for free and the launch for that is on that site as well.

Less than 2 hours to go! The Clash Of The Titans is at Hand! Soo excited!

Trust, I'd rather have satellite over digital cable. Digicable's RaptorsTV is good, but not that good. The channel consists of Greatest Games which are old school games (usually playoff games), crappy pre and post-game shows, NBA inside (and other similar programs), and naturally Raptors games... but not all (which I thought would be all games, but noooooo).

Right now I can view games on CTV, TSN and RaptorsTV (I don't have full cable), but by satellite you can get any games ya want (NBA1, NBA2, etc...).

RaptorsTV: good idea, not-so-good programming... yet.

i don't think that they will shoot themselves in the foot and not have some games on regular cable. tsn or ctv will have games on for sure. the whole league, especially the rapters, would lose popularity to other sports if the average person can't watch the games. the league is still interested in having as many people as possible watch the games.

true. it is a catchy song.

but, between NBC, ABC, CBS and FOX ... ABC *owns* the sports song competition.

But that song was around before ABC handed Hank Williams Jr. a bunch of cash to change the lyrics to "All My Rowdy Frinds" for the NFL.

The "NBA on NBC" is an original John Tesh masterpiece made specifically for it (to my best knowledge).

As long Bill Walton never does colour for another NBA game, I'll be more than happy. They should actually bring Dennis Miller in to do colour, that'd be cool. I actually think we'll get to see more games here. ESPN owns TSN and Sportsnet, so I think we'll have more hoops on TV. NBC was seriously stink'en up their coverage. How many times do I have to watch the Wizards and Knicks?

No more Walton

And I'm pretty sure that ESPN has part ownership in both. Just look at TSN's look and feel now, its totally ESPN North. Like it matters, everything will be owned by AOL/TimeWarner/Disney before you know it.

As of 99, Fox owned 20% of SportsNet while ESPN owned 32% of NetStar (TSN, RDS etc.)

In 2000, CTV purchased 80% of NetStar so now there's just a whole bunch of people in bed together.

But you're right, everything is eventually gonna be owned by Michael Isner, Bill Gates, and Steven Speilberg

I think CTV is the majority owner of TSN (NetStar) and is a very small portion of Sportnet's ownership group. Rogers is now the majority owner of Sportsnet while ESPN own a good portion of TSN also. ESPN was going to change TSN's name to ESPN Canada... as sad as that is.

Ya, I just checked that shit. They're not saying what's up for next year, but this year they had what, 30 raps games and 24 others?

That's kinda crap.

I've got a friend with that mini dish bullshit who's getting basically every game they can broadcast at the same time (not just raps) + all sorts of college ball... unfortunately I live in an apartement.

BAH!
