Get your wife beaters on and crack open a can of Bud.

NASCAR gets going this weekend with the granddaddy of them all DAYTONA 500.

Who's watching?

I will be - nothing like wathing 6 hours of left turns, great crashes and hot chicks in the stands.:D

Jeff Gordon is my pic for the week and the Nextel Title.

he's gonna get 'smoke'd by mark martin this year.

Roush is going to throw everything he has behind Mark. This has been something that he hasn't had the past couple years.

Thats what I heard last year too. Mark was retiring so they were going to go all out to get him the cup.

It's tough to do with Biffle, Kenseth, Edwards and now McMurray all wanting the good stuff.

ETA: I like the your line that he will get "smoke"d...very clever..:)

Did anyone watch the Bud Shootout?

I can't believe how hard they were hitting each other. Bump drafting has become smash-the-shit-out-of-the-car-in-front-of-you-drafting (!!!).

The 500 is going to be more of a crash fest that it normally is.

I'm an idiot, I missed the Bud Shoot Out and watched the Daytona Pole Qualifying.

For some reason I thought that the Shoot Out was on Sunday. :(

I don't think Tony Stewart is going to win again, at least I hope not.

He rubs me the wrong way. He was better this past season than the one before, but I still don't like him.

Kasey Kahne to win, but it'll never in a Dodge. :(

I'm rooting for Carl Edwards.

The shootout was on Sunday, it was supposed to be on Saturday night, but it was rained out.

AFAIK, it wasn't televised live in Canada. It was on TSN around midnight (tape delay).

I don't think it will be as bad in the 500 until the end of course.

Keep in mind that was a 70 lap shoot out. The drivers basically know they either have to bring home the Trophy or the Steering Wheel. No one is too concerned with their cars. 500 miles is a whole different story.

Problem is, these guys just can't pass any other way. They get up beside a car and if no one is pushing both cars just stall out.

Awesome to see Denny Hamlin win. Gibbs has their Daytona program ready to go. Hope this is a sign of things to come this year.

Joe needs another championship to break the tie

3 superbowls
3 Winston/Nextel Cup Championships

I wouldn't care about a $300,000 race car at all.

They have been bump drafting at the plate tracks for years. There is nothing wrong with it. The difference is they used to only do it on the backstretch. Now they are doing it going into the turns, coming off of them, going into the tri-oval (this is fucking suicide ask Ryan Newman).

The rear bumpers never used to be torn to shit like they were after the shootout. Teams never used to beef up their Daytona cars. The front end of Carl Edwards car looked very similar to what a Bristol car looks like; 2 inch nerf bars galore.

Someone is going to die on Sunday.

Not Jeff Gordon. Qualified 2nd for the 500. Hopefully Jimmie Johnson will qualify well in on thursday so they can help each other out.

I think this year is going to be different. The guys don't seem to have the patience anymore. There are two ways to avoid the 'big one'

1. Be horseshit lucky.

2. Be in front of it.

It is going to be a mad dash to the front. The duels are going to be interesting to watch. I think I'm going to be sick on thursday.

and it's only going to get worse when they get to the short tracks like Bristol.

I think the new points format has put the fire under everyone to perform well. Plus the amount of money this sport has generated through sponsership and endourcements is nutty.

I don't think Rick Hendrick or Robert Yates or Jack Roush are going to lose sleep over having to rebuild a "300,000 dollar race car" How many do they rebuild in a year anyway?

A crash at Daytona or Talladega isn't a rebuild. Most of those cars are bent so badly they are scrapped.

You're right re-build was a stupid word to use.

I only said they don't care about the cars because these guys always say "bring me the trophy or the wheel" so I am just assuming they don't worry too much about these cars they build completely seperate for just this race, and the ones they build for the Charlotte all-star race.

Even if these cars are written off so what. We are talking about Hendrick, Roush, Yates, Childress. It's a drop in the bucket.

This ain't Robby Gordon Motorsports we are talking about here.
