Altec Lansing ACS 45.2 Speakers... I just cam home and went to turn them on and nothing!!! No power at all.. I tried all the wires EVERYTHING!! My one year warantee is up on the 27th of this month.. thank god this didn't happen on the 28th!

I guess I'm lucky in that sense.. but still it pisses me off that the power wont even turn on for these fuckers!

I think I might even upgrade to a nicer set.. they may have to be altec lansing though.. I think warante might let me upgrade.. if not. .. damn!

I'm very satisfied with my Altec Lansing. Not exactly too sure which model they are, the subwoofer carries 100 watts and 2 slim speakers.

Yey.

OooOoohhh.. pretty!

hehe.. the one thing I don't like about my speakers (when they worked) was that the highs were not loud at all.. and the music I made here.. when played at the club.. the highs were soo loud I could kill cats with them.. I need a speaker with good high frequency response... without going out and getting expen$$ive high end magnetic shielded Studio Speakers.

Monitor thread... neat!

At my studio, I have hr824's, ns10's (with a hafler transnova), and a bunch of nifty cans. The Hr's are powered, shielded, cost about U$650 each (not sold in pairs), sound like $5k speakers, are heavy as hell and do not require a sub. Although a sub would not be a detriment.

However, if you're looking to spend less money and still be able to mix at home, how about powered yorkvilles? I think the model is ysm 1p, and the last time I heard them I was very impressed.

And behringer has the Truth powered monitors. Like everything behringer makes, it looks just a bit too much like the competitions product... but they sound good while costing much less than the mackies.

I'd keep that sub, just for fun.

How about second hand monitors? I visited a place called Songbird, on Queen St., a few weeks ago, and they had several used monitors. Hafler, hhb, event and some others. The speaker/amp matching in powered monitors makes them less susceptible to overload damage than on passive systems. So used powered monitors could be interesting...

Fun thread,

Good call.
I was just using those Yorkville's today for some mixing, and I was very impressed as well. They sounded excellent...almost on par with the more expensive Mackies etc. And they only cost about $800 for a pair...can't beat that.

Got those at my desk at work. Sound great when the speakers are close to the sub, but otherwise, the speakers have zero mid-range on them. Was moving my desk around today and tried some different setups. Sub away from speakers = garbage, and I'm not talking about a huge distance, just off to the side.

I think the behringers cost around 500. Now that's cheap.

Just remembered: yamaha msp5's. They sound pretty good, have all the powered monitor fixins, and are kinda cheap (around 500?). But they may need a sub too really fly.

I have my computer hooked up to my stero system. Surround sound amp and sweet speaker setup. My brother bought like $400 speakers for his computer and I was thinking of doing the same, but I didn't know you could hook a computer to a hi-fi stereo.

All it costed was a 6 dollar RCA adapter from future shop and some extension wires... and voila MP3 capability for my stereo, the remote control option is great too :)
