Got my first two "rave" tapes at X-static in 93 or 94. They were Dr. No - "Back from the UK" and another simply called "Rough Jungle"

Both were dope old school jungle/techno tapes, lots of amazing ragga samples (ala new jack city and boyz in the hood!)

BTW: I no longer have these tapes, they were "borrowed" some time ago so if anyone has either of these tapes let me know - I have LOTS I can trade...!

First Tape?

DJ Skin - Unravled

Local "Industrial" DJ back in 94.

He now spins Hard House........heh

After that it was a Mark EG mixtape that a friend lent me. I still have it kicking around here somewhere. All it said was "Mark EG - Bangin"

First was Keoki - Disco Deathrace 2000. Used to love all those Moonshine comps - White Trash Gangster Trance was great! Still have a couple of the Basslines discs but for the most part all I listen to now is house; and other than Donald Glaude and DJ Dan I haven't seen too much on Moonshine lately.

My first batch of tapes were:

Jumping Jack Frost live @ Renegades '94
Dominik - Pure Rotterdam vol 3
Sniper vs. Ruffrida (I think)
John E vs. Minutemaid live @ Subb
DJ Rap
Nicky Blackmarket - Happy Hardcore

Those were all first or second generation dubs from a friend.

The first tape I bought at X-Static was John E "In the Garden." On the other hand, the last tape I bought at X-Static was Nivoc's "Baba Ganesh."

I've got over a hundred tapes available for trade if anyone's interested.

carl cox - live @ utopia (1996)

the third hour of a three hour set. fantastic tape! i remember when i bought it, i walked into the store (upstairs @ queen/john, southwest corner) and there was just tons of tapes on the wall. the dj names meant almost nothing to me. i asked for some recommendations from the guy behind the counter, but i didn't know exactly what 'style' of music i was looking for either. :)

i think i ended up picking it up because he was playing it in the store. anyway, it's a solid mix.

i remember that party. it was held at the wharehouse and carl cox rawked it! memories of martha wash singin 'jumpin' are coming back to me.

when you bought your ticket for the utopia party you received a free tape. one side was jungle the other house. man, if anyone has that tape i'd love to get a copy of it.

in addition to that party kickin major ass, i remember ending up at q beach in the morning after the party and dancing on the beach while a dj played music for a marathon being held in the beaches area. that evening and morning was pure utopia.

- that i miss x-static too guy

Well, since it's "~*...my first electronic music cassette...*~", it would be Skinny Puppy's "Mind: The Perpetual Intercourse" in 1986. You didn't say "~*...my first dj set cassette...*~.

BBB.
