i hope that the "above aria" space has better sound this time..
i would hate for an interesting lineup such as this one (avant-mutek) to be lost in the terrible sound quality i've experienced every other time i've been there...

(sorry dave..)

louder..FULLER..

any comments???

techno & beer

Ah, techno and beer. They go se well together don't they? I think I personally am looking forward to Mr. Fairly's set the most, although Akufen has a lot of hype internationally right now and it will be cool to see why. I'm not sure if I really dig the super cut up style that he espouces, but am willing to be converted. Jeremy thinks he's next to God, so there 'ya be. . .

crazy ass sound

I went by the space yesterday to check things out and make sure everything is jiggy and what do I find? Brand new fucking digital speakers. Custom built cabinets by the speaker manufacturer. I was like "holy shit". These things put out so much sound it's unbelievable.

I know I must sound like the biggest promotor whore but I'm giddy like a schoolgirl about these speakers! Apparently they're gaining a rep as "Vdoss Killers" which if you've ever heard vdoss systems you'd have to say that's an impressive rep.

So at any rate, if any of you remember the sound system at Soul On Spadina (that night for Ken Ishii) it'll sound something like that. Smaller in scale but you get the idea. =)

Didn't Adcom build the speakers @ SOS; they also had a killer rack of amps (QSC or Bryston) to power that system.

I looks forward to hearing this new system...

Can't recall who built everything which is why I didn't post the name of the maker. But I do know it's the same maker. The SOS system ran on bryston amps but the aria space will be running on custom amps from qsc and the speaker company from what I understand.

After I saw these speakers and having committed to some sound rentals already, the live acts will now have almost as much monitoring power as the whole sound system at the b-side

thats not a selling point the sound at bside sucks my bum.... ;)
I wouldnt want to hear my self through the sound at bside with thier stock sound ever again... its as bad as the sound as any where.... as a live performer I have to say that I have only been able to hear my self play one when i was playing and that was at the reverb... for the most part the sound set ups around this city are just plain poor.... that or Im just deaf... ;)

neil...

Well stop listening to piercing microsound music at full blast then! ;)

Man you know what I meant

Anyway, for those thread hoppers I would highly recommend Neil's upcoming Scion/Tikiman show. 420? THAT'S gonna be 420 as far as I'm concerned

The Vdos thing!

Hello Everyone! ITS about time some clubs started getting a v-dos system..... Your right they are amazing speakers! I have been following its development for about 2 years now, and the hype over them just keeps getting bigger and bigger! They are designed and built by a company called L-accoustic (A french company) and the theory behind them is that the SPL (sound pressure level) in front of the speakers is mostly the same at the back of the romm 100 or 200' away. The last tours of Radiohead and U2 have used this v-dos line array system. And now a whole bunch of other major sound companies are trying to jump the wagon and get their own line array systems going! Also the musical Mumma Mia on king street is using a v-dos system. Anyway if anyone is interested in sound design and stuff like that i would rekomend the L-accoustic site and read up on the stuff about coplainar wave fronts. Its quiet interesting, and looks amazing when you see a line array of 20 speakers pumpin some awsome sound!

Sound design in cool

Amplification is another key to any v-dos systems! Its the way everything needs to be amplified in the way l-acoustic specifies. In order to run one of these systems too you need special training from them as well.... (If only i could get to france!)
