so my dad just called to tell me he bought me a present

a multi-meter

haha!

the last time i was at my parents' house i was testing batteries with one and said how cool it would be to have my own

i guess he remembered!

i'm gonna go buckwild testing voltages and current now! hehe

Perhaps one of the more geeky gifts on the market.... I use them all the time in my silly labs. Fuck I hate labs.

Resistance maybe? Resistivity is kinda different.

Resistance = ohms
Resistivity = ohms per unit length (milfoot, I think)

step 1. we will have lot of fun
red lead = 10A current
black lead = common

step 2. there's so much we can doooo.
put one lead in an outlet.
put other lead in your hand.
put other hand on anything grounded.

step 3. baby, it's just you and meeee.
measure current through body.

fun times.

with that, you can also calculate your body's lowest resistance path through your hands.

resistivity = Resistance * Cross-Sectional Area of conductor / Length of conductor

:p

but yeah, you'd measure the resistance with an ohmmeter, not the resistivity ;)

i'll get right on that ;)

now i'm totally bringing my new ohmmeter to OM

My multimeter gets me all amped up-- it is my current love, and it has the potential to be so much more.

pure A-list material

my multi-meter was so usefull in troubleshooting our electrical circuits in our old appartment. It really is all about the continuity.

I've got a nice $5k calibration meter at work that I can do all sorts of fun stuff with.

Yeah...I couldn't remeber exactly. We never really dealt with resistivity that much in school. I knew it involved the cross-sectional area (circular mils) and lenth (ft.) [milfoot], but I was in a rush and I didn't think that anyone needed a lesson in resistivity.

Good to know that google is still working though. :p
