Taking time off from appearing in London play 'Top Dog/ Underdog', hip hop legend Mos Def dropped by to chat to Gilles Peterson about the forthcoming album and his acting career...

    (part 3 audio)

Mos Def on the new album...
"I wanted to do something that was like a rock 'n' roll project, but there is so much hip hop that is staright up rock 'n' roll. Really it is a Mos Def album...but I wanted to show that rock 'n' roll could work in a hip hop environment."

does anyone know a drop date for his new album?

also- does anyone know or have a listing of songs that he has appeared in, in any genre? im thinking along the lines of some house tracks I mustve heard him in, or perhaps some dnb?

well...Mos Def wants to make a name for himself onscreen...
just like he's made a name for himself asa rapper... that might explain why he has not released the follow-up to his solo debut, Black on Both Sides, which came out four years ago.

Oh ya.. I also heard that not only has he finished recording a new album... but eight new Mos Def songs will be featured on the upcoming Soundbombing 4 compilation album on Rawkus Records, due October 28. The comp's first single is the Mos Def track "Beef," with production from Swizz Beatz.

As for Mos' own studio album, after toying around with his all-star rock outfit Black Jack Johnson for the better part of two years, he has assembled a mix of both hip-hop and rock songs. Mos' spokesperson said the untitled album should see release in early 2004.

and the only track I know of...
is the Oh No dj hype remix..
    *shakes head*
    ruined a perfectly good song

dood.. just listen to what he puts out...
there is a reason why you must have not heard him
in any house or d&b tracks..
    cuz.. it's shit.. lol
    he is hip-hop

omg.. that Oh No remix is fucking terrible..
    im gonna puke
