Montreal and Berlin nightclubs

True true, Toronto, you do have a good thing going on.

But why is it that Montreal and Berlin are home to the perfect underground scene?

Alas...

Oh what I wouldn't pay for a KitKat or Taboo equivalency right now.

what are you doing thinking about Montreal and Berlin? There are Hill billys out there who need some shagging right now.

i just got back from berlin, and the reason night life is so good has a lot to do with the fact that young people dont really work. the city is also full of artists who make their own schedules, so its always time to party. also people do a lot of speed and the bars never close.

apparently Stereo mtl is getting majorly fucked with by the authorities over cappacity issues in the last few weeks, to the point of shutting it down in full swing during a Morales party recently.

it ain't perfect in montreal right now, not even close

very observant, yes that's true.

just that it's never been an issue in the past, so you can imagine the potential loss they're looking at right now. Quebec has very strict (some would say absurd) capacity laws, stemming from a tragic nightclub fire in montreal during the '70s. for some reason they left stereo alone in the past, not anymore. the result is that guestlist has been cut off and cover is going up, and a lot of people are scared about the club's immediate future.

um..

Toronto has a new club opening in Late June.
Its going to be modeled after the clubs in Berlin.
Hot Sets is doing the Interior and facades !
so you know its gonna look awesome.

I even hear rumours of a Sunday morning tea party.

lol. Berlin's attraction, in my opinion, is more a function of the people who make up the scene there rather than the look/feel of any clubs. Berghain and Watergate are a lot of fun, but we have "fun" places here too ... it's really got a lot more to do with the people (as cliche and tired as that may sound) than it does the buildings or the musical talent.

From packing in 800 - 1000 people on a busy Saturday, they now have to stick to a maximum capacity of 466 people...No more guestlist, no more reduced tickets. Advance tickets for most upcoming events are at 40$ + 4$ service charge, or 30$ for local DJ's. With a price of probably 50$ or more at the door, the future doesn't look great unless they can get their legal capacity raised.
