Don't really feel qualified to post a review sinc I only stayed for a couple of hours.

Danced a little (whenever at Turbo I ALWAYS party in front of the air conditioner now.. so sweet..), but just was not into the all out fouronthefloor techno assault last night. I'm beginning to realize I like it mixed up a little more.. that's why Richie's set was heaven for me. More techno DJs need to embrace the power of working electro-tinged beats into their sets as well. (Note to self, check out the Dukes some time
smile.gif
)

dicodancer_j_.. Were you near the women's washroom by the air-con for the first part of the night? Wearing a white tee with someone's head on it? I thought I recognized you from some pics here.. also from Richie Hawtin where I was dancing near you at the start of the night.. lotsa bracelets?

Anyway, Misstress's set sounded good, but I had to go home and watch "High Plains Drifter" instead. Clint was such a baaaaad man.

Oh

My

God!

Mistress Barbara kicked my ass! She was relentless! Every time I tried to leave the dancefloor for a rest or to get water, she'd throw down a track that would pull me right back. Mmmm-mmmm.

Sweet!

Can't comment on the other DJs, I left right after Barbara went off. Hooker had some good tracks right before she went on though.

J-Hi...missed you leaving. Let me know how the skydiving was! (ICQ me)

As expected, the Mistress delivered a solid, thumping (and sometimes assaulting) set. The first hour was especially good. Things got a little monotonous after that. But in hindsight, it probably would've been impossible for her to keep up that kind of energy for the whole 3 or 4 hours.

The jungle room downstairs was surprisingly deserted... I thought more people would show up to support the torontojungle.com/intimate crew. Oh well. Jungle is played out anyway :p

Got there pretty early, some wikkit house tracks being laid down...better than usual for a Turbo friday night. My poor aching body was still in off mode from DJ Dan recovery but I managed to dance quite a bit.

Misstress Barbara graced us with her presence shortly after, and wow, is she ever mesmerizing. Just the way she gives the crowd that look....the whole "Yes, I'm incredibly sexy, I'm a fantastic dj, now I'm going to seduce me even more with this piercing look, so you all best get your hands in the air and show me some fucking respect"...

Things started off with amazing energy. Coudln't stop dancing.

But i find with Misstress Barbara, once you've heard the first 5 or so tracks, you've pretty much heard them all. Things got fairly monotonous after a while and my energy died out so we took off pretty early.

Still though, a great night out.

When were you there? It started to clear our after Terra and Kinetic's set, but up until around 2AM, it was far from deserted. I was there for most of the night. There were tons of people and the vibe was wicked (as always with Intimate's parties).

Big tings a'gwon!!

Total Assault.

She rocked that place hard. HARD!
Thats what she was there to do, not educate or elavate but to rock the fuck out of the place.

And that she did.

The set started to get a little sissified around 3:30 I'm sure she must have noticed the lack of enthusiasm from the crowd as the beats slowed down and mellowed out so about 15 minutes before the end, she started banging the place off the walls again.

Orgasmic.

jordan

Terra and Kinetic were especially awful.

whoa....my feet are way too programmed to dance on the beats not bounce and miss 30 of them before they hit the floor again....it was too funny to see most the breakers in the jungle room after stretch & hooker's set.....Kinetic & Tearra were brilliant...and well trance does has its time around 5:45am pumping away in my headphones while pluggin through deadline projects...its kinda like audio caffiene.

I am a Terra and Kinetic fan, and I've seen them both show their skills but I found that their set was lacking on Friday, maybe because I don't like drum n bass too be too techy and harsh and without soul. It was too noisy, and the mixing was not for me. It was too busy, and the layering was too much for my ears. The bass was turned up so high at one point I had to leave to the hallway because it was vibrating throughout my whole body.

Altho Mistress Barbara was amazing ! I heard her right until the end, and she was going crazy. A woman with 3 decks =) I am one not for techno, but I actually enjoyed it. I've seen her a bit once before and didn't like it. But her mixes were ohhh... and that song she played with the 80's sample, was just classic.

Jordan, I usually don't respond to reviews because everone is entitled to share their opinion. ie : Ecstacy riot said she wasn't feeling us because we played "techy and harsh" and that's cool. But your post was all about Mistress Barbara and then randomly we were "especially awful" at the end of your post.
smile.gif
Its so random that I find it honestly funny . Please explain so I won't be so awful next time.

I think I too should expound upon my description...after being blasted through the floor and landing in the middle of your set, I started to dance immediately as the tempo was bouncy with a hip-hop feel and then your set got darker to ready the room for Terra's harsher bass sounds...but I don't think it she ever hit the nightmare scale as that would be too much of contrast from your set. I've seen you two before and you work brilliantly as a team because you don't overlap and seem to act progressively building up all the shades of drum&bass...just curious.....do you practice together off-hours?

And anyone who calls m.barbara's set "orgasmic" couldn't possibly understand the sexy and smooth subtleties of drum&bass and obviously suffers from premmature ejaculations

i had fun, mistress barbara was alright, got me dancin for a while once i found a spot where i had enuff room to dance.
her set was rather monotonous sounding to me, but mabye i'm just an uneducated techno listener...

My main problem with the night was THE FUCKING STROBE LIGHTS!! i really cant handle them for more then short bursts, and they were going constantly whenever she dropped the bassline. they'd turn off during the build ups, and i'd get hopeful 'oh, maybe they'll actually stay off for a minute' but it didnt happen.
oh well, i still had fun, i'm just not co-ordinated enough to handle stobe lights, and as was previously stated in this thread, there were a LOT of really beautiful women there... DAMN

Headwinds, thanks for the love and yes we practise together sometimes. But your quote from my post was quoted wrong, I don't know how that happened? I never said brilliant, I believe brilliant replaced awful twice.

Kinetic: Sorry my remark may have been not detailed and descriptive enough for you.

I am entitled to voice my opinions of your set as I please, however for your sake I will elaborate.
I was downstairs from 12:30 to 2:00,
The mixing wasn't bad, it was the intro track that you spun, with the over "enthusiastic"? scratching, hip hop and jungle, even scratching and jungle can work, however I did not feel it was last night while you were up on stage. It sounded more like you were in your living room fucking around and "trying out new stuff" rather than playing for actual people. Your initial track went on far too long and didnt actually pick up for what seemed like 15 or 20 minutes. The tease of a breakbeat and then some rather "un-orgasmic" squelching bass was not up my alley. And on it went, uninspired mixes, until 3:00 when I went upstairs.
No offence, I have heard you spin before and I have enjoyed your sets once in a while, even though I am not a fan of hip-hop oriented drum and bass. At limelight you are especially fun.

You don't even deserve a response, however I am too childish not to say anything.
Any person who knows me, knows I am an enourmous fan of drum and bass, I spend my money and my time listening to it and playing it everyday and going out at least 3 times a week to hear it. Most of my fridays are spent downstairs at Turbo until 4:00AM dancing.
I also enjoy techno, hard driving techno, and my first love, screaming wailing diva house.
Does this mean I'm not knowledgable enough to know my ass from a hole in the ground about drum and bass?
Sorry, next time i'll make sure to find the one genre that I like and then hate on all the other ones.

Of course she isn't a lesbian.....She's my wife!!!

What a great night, I had so much fun. The night started out kinda slow and I really wasn't having a good time at all. The reason for that is, I wasn't feeling Stretch and Hooker's set at all. I'm not much of a house fan any more, and their set was putting me to sleep. Then the Mistress took her place at the decks and even though I couldn't see from the back of the room, I knew that she had started. She cut the bass out and started her mix, and then dropped the bass back in and it was slamming. For the next three hours, she just killed it, playing one hard track after the other and I danced my ass off.
Just as she ended her set, my friend who was up front, came running back with a huge grin on his face. When he toild me why he was grinning so much, it kinda topped the whole night off...Kenny Glasgow was standing next to Mistress Barbara, cheering her on with a huge grin on his face. To's top Dj come to pay his respects...just wicked.

I personally thought the party was dead. I walked in and I felt no vibe at all. Mistrees Barbara was spinning too hard for my liking also.

I stayed for about a half an hour then I left!

thank god I didnt pay for this party or I would have been pissed!
