Marky and Craze were a no-show BUT...

I haven't had this much of a good time at System in a LONG time.

This is PROOF that B&H, Empire (yes, I'm even giving Empire props) and System know how to please a crowd.
The place was packed, the music was AMAZING and the crowd was diverse. Who said junglists can't be considerate. I've never been treated with so much respect before at the System.

I'd like to thank the security for being fucking sweethearts. I'd like to thank the bartending staff for being so professional. I'd like to give mad props to our HOMEGROWN talent.

This is also proof that our locals can create a fucking wicked event. Marcus is THE man. He is one of Toronto's nicest, slickest and most underrated DJs.

I was definitely pleased with Marky's "Rio..." being played 3 times. Some tight mixing goin' on. And that r&b song called "Oh My" that's being played on Kiss 92 so much... I was just thinking about it at work in the office today when I heard it on the radio in the back office, "they should do a jungle remix of that track. It's dark and dirty." And guess what I heard??? A SWEET REMIX! Sweet sounds.

There was J Majik, FIRE! (a little old-skool turned into tech-step and a lot of anthems.

All this topped off with NO COVER so I could've made it my birthday thing.

And somewhere in the middle, they got one of the security guys to give free shots up near the booth to the thirsty junglists. He jusy stood on the speaker with a bottle of booze and gave everyone "sum juice." It was something I've NEVER seen.

Great to see Kadina (looking fine as always), Doublecross (double-fisting his way to inebriation), Air-bag (I miss you so much) and my party friend from highschool.
All around a great time and no attitude.

BODY ROC in the summer, people, for sure. I am SO glad I didn't go to Tonic. I'm going to bed a happy man. What a wicked pre-birthday night!

Empire, Ryan, my FULL RESPECT to you!
Hands down, you guys are the most responsible promotion team in tdot!

Unlike the common practice of bitching at promoters for djs' work permit issues, i dont think ANYONE would even think of bitching at you in this case.

Free party. Best locals in town (Lush, Mystical, MARCUS!!!!) that were instructed to tear the roof with anthems all nite, free shots, and lots more...

Again, I would like to say thank you in the name of all who attended. It was not your fault that the headliners couldnt come, yet you made every possible effort to satisfy the crowd despite that. big ups!!

p.s.
Our home grown crew can kill any international dj anyways ;)

p.p.s

I have TONS of pictures. I'll post them on friday coz i'm too tired now. If anyone remembers me taking his/her picture, icq me at 37224333.

No Show?

Does anyone know why Marky & Craze didn't show?
Not that it really matters b/c locals seem to do it up just as good if not better.

Apparently Marky is sick after WMC...no clue why Craze didn't make it...but i hear the tour is still happening, just minus Marky.

HUGE respect to empire, for all the reasons everyone has already stated.
got there, saw the sign on the window, walked through the door for free, expecting the worst - and saw a crowd of junglists going OFF.
haven't had that much fun in ages.

99% of toronto production companies would've charged a hefty cover anyways, but empire showed they actually have morals and heart, and managed to salvage an incredible locals only night out of it.

so thanks to empire, thanks to the local dj's (marcus owns), and thanks to the toronto junglists for putting a smile on my face all night long.

everytime i fear for our scene, something like this restores my faith.

I heard security talking about some sort of work permit conflict? Whatever that means.

But good times. And Feisty Boy is right. Restored my faith definitely.

It was a thuggy, junglist sausage party so lots of eye-candy for the night. Sunny was in testosterone heaven.

But the pants in the socks have got to go.

I must begin by sending a much deserved thank you to each and every person who came down to BODY ROC last night for the GOLD SERIES presentation of DJ MARKY & DJ CRAZE with MC SKIBADEE.

Unfortunately, Empire/Hustlin' Beats and System Soundbar were forced to postpone the scheduled event due to a mishap with the work permits. We were told that GOLD SERIES and/or the Artist Agency that booked the tour for us were supposed to have taken care of the Canadian work permits and US work visa's. For what-ever reason, the work permits were not taken care of thus forcing us to scramble to work something out, but to no evail. I received the final word late Wednesday that nothing was able to happen simply because each of the artist's managers decided against sending there artists into a foreign country with no paperwork stating why they were there.

We are currently in talks with all of the artist's agents and managers so that we can establish a make-up date in the up coming months of BODY ROC or an alternative special event.

As for last nights turn-out:

FUCKING INCREDIBLE

The vibe that was created inside System Soundbar was something that we haven't seen at a Toronto Jungle night in a very long time. Everyone had the opportunity to express their feelings about the mishap with the permits and everyone turned a possible trajady into a celebration. BEST PART ABOUT THE ENTIRE NIGHT WAS THE FACT THAT THE NIGHT WAS A HUGE SUCCESS WITH OUR HOMETOWN HEROS MASHING IT DOWN ON THE DECKS ALL NIGHT LONG. If that event was held ANYWHERE else in the world, with the line-up that played in there last night... PEOPLE WOULD HAVE GONE MAD! All those DJs and MCs are global travellers/performers and we all agreed that that was simply amazing.

All of you who came through and supported us in a time of need... MAXIMUM BOOST.

I personally want to thank:

Mystical Influence
Marcus Visionary
DJ Lush
Everfresh
Diligence

and especially L Natural and Caddy for representing what the basis of Jungle in Toronto is all about... the party vibe.

Again, for all those who were disappointed with turn out of last nights event we do want to extend our deepest apology and remember that even though it was completely out of our hands, we are promising a make-up date.

Much Love and Respect

Ryan Ruckus & entire Empire/Hustlin' Beats & System Soundbar family.

P.S. (cheap plug)

Don't forget, one week from Saturday, Numb's 8 year Anniversary presented by Empire Productions.

ADAM F
MAMPI SWIFT
MC EKSMAN
MC L NATURAL

DJ BOOGIE
DJ LOVE
DOMINIK vs. GRIMACE

and much, much more.

See ya all on Saturday April 13th 2002.

absolutely great night at system!

when I got there I saw the sign right away regarding the problems with promotion but when I saw the free cover I let it slip...

got in there and the place was packed, lots of ladies and gents to keep the place hot!

This was one of those nights that was very influencial in the way i think about our great city and the state of drum and bass. The music was definate prrof that ANY of our talented,scene-stealin' locals can mop the floor with any producer/dj that steps foot on our turf!Mystical, lush, and marcus have restored my faith in our town's jungle scene with tight mixing, great selections, and keeping the set going nice and crisp. It also gave me a great perspective on myself and my relationship with "jungle".Ive always been very quick to judge the aesthetic of the everday "junglist"(no pun intended!) and this night proved to me that I was an everyday junglist, not JUST a drum and bass enthusiast. The crowd, the music, the atmosphere in general just gave me complete solace and although ive been partying for years and have been a HUGE fan of the jungle scene for years, last night was one of the only times ive really felt like I was in a family!

Sounds a bit mushy and pretenious, but that's how i feel...ive always condemned the term" junglist" on the risk of sounding like those who listen and live the lifestyle of that of a "junglist" are a bit thuggy and overplayed, but this night made my realise the junglist in me and I thank each and every one the people in that club last night for creating this experience!

great night and hope to see you all in the summer for more!

It's funny how places always look nicer in pictures. I don't remember all those coloured lights. When you're in a sweaty pit, all you see is black.

Damn, I freakin' hate bad pics of me. Alex, you got some better ones, foo'?

Man. I'm looking at these and remembering that this has been the funnest event in a long time. I will definitely make it out to support the make-up date.

What was so wicked was the vibe created by the staff, the djs and the MCs.

But it was still the best event I've been to since Goldie @ Industry and watching shooting stars outside the jungle tent @ the first WEMF.
