Wow....amazing.... What else can i say?

Markus dropped an amazing set, there's no doubt about that. There was actually a decent amount of space and so I didn't have any problems with getting pushed around etc etc. We did arrive quite late (4 30 am) though, but i'd like to think that the party was at it's climax.

The crowd was going absolutely nuts! Everyone was really feeling this one and the atmosphere was perfect in my opinion.

ps. Sydney was tearin' it up at the Gallery as well.

Just to name a few tracks he dropped:

Nalin and Kane - Open your eyes (MS return to CH mix)
way out west - Killa (Orkidea mix)
Mojado featuring Mr Sam - Naranja
Markus Schulz feat. Departure - Without you near
yilmaz altaghian - eighties
that crazy dogzila vocal tune (forgot the name)
El - Find
Paul Oakenfold - southern sun

not to mention some Marcel Woods....

Thoughts? Anyone know where I could grab the set from? Or the entire tracklist?

I lost it several times at this party from the moment i waltzed into the gallery to hear Addy throwin down followed by Sydney Blu who laid it out something fierce, thanks for bringing it dirty and not holding back.

As for the GUV. Those that know me know I NEVER close out a party anymore and haven't for some years, but I must confess on this night I did.

Nalin and Kane - Open your eyes crazy, then Mark finished the night off so solid

overall a great night @ GUV

the non-main room dj's all put out some VERY dirty funky sets. I believe it was to combat all teh ghey coming from the mainroom.
good night. I also closed it. then went over to some relatively quaint place on spadina somewhere.

I spent the day before listening to AVB aSoT yearmix 2005 which was fantastic

Mark Oliver:
7/10
Doing his usual good thing he does.

Review of Marcus:
7/10
Dropped some incredible music.....Almost identical to AVB's yearmix :(
I was expecting something more...something different....something fresh
Guess Toronto is not the place to drop fresh tracks anymore

Review of the Sound System:
4/10
I think it's time the Guv do something about this problem...cuz the sound was horrible. I'd rather pay more money to get a better sound.

Review of the Crowd Nrg or Atmosphere:
5/10
Was a good crowd...only...I've seen more nrg come out of other nights than this night.

Gallery:
Always a great room to go into cuz my pref is for Addy or Deko-ze more than it is for Sydney. Guess I'm just picky.

please explain to me what is so bad about the sound? Some of the worlds best engineers designed and maintain that system. Also just in case you didn't know this is a digital system not analog, could it be your preference to analog maybe?

it's not as tight as it once was. Im pretty sure their own techs service the room now. hence, it needing tuning badly. it's a big room though. which means I probably wouln't like it no matter what. The Drink and Gallery are the pounding rooms.

I had the best time that night! First time @ Gallery and was super impressed with Sydney Blu. Went back and forth to the Guv with Kyfe the entire night, I think we missed Schulz. Oliver was awesome as usual.

i'm confused too - phazons generally sound great, and the guvernment one has sounded amazing in the past.
maybe they blew some speakers?

the other factor would be if Markus wasn't playing on the Urei up in the booth - a lot of touring DJs can't deal with it and insist on plugging in a pioneer, which will make any system sound like crap, especially if he cranks the gains at all.
as well, when they put DJs on stage, the turntable isolation goes to shit, which combined with a subpar mixer can lead to very crappy sound.

this is the problem with all this rock-star DJ shit - putting the DJ in the middle of the room on a stage is a surefire way to make it sound like shit. they should be forced to play up in the booth on the Urei. if they can't hack it on that, they shouldn't be playing the main room.

as an aside...

fyi... Steve Dash (the main entity/brains behind Phazon) is no longer with Phazon?? he's with "Integral"....

"Integral" is the new entity...

integral_logo.gif

from a venue review (Spirit, NYC)...

A change is underfoot at SPIRIT including a new sound system and promotion teams. The club on West 27th has been revamped with the world's second Integral Sound system (the debut system going into Sven Vath’s highly-touted Cocoon club in Germany). Integral is the new sound company formed by Mike Bindra and Steve Dash, the same partnership behind Arc's renowned system. As many will remember Steve Dash is the mastermind engineer behind the famous Phazon sound systems at Twilo & (original) Sound Factory and Mike was the General Manager at Twilo during its golden years. Considering the history of the space and their partnership, you can imagine how much care must have gone into the new system from these two...

also fyi... just read that The Shelbourne Hotel in south beach has installed a new Integral system in their basement venue "Shine" as well. posted in the house room under wmc listings.

As you can see by now...I'm not the only one who thinks the sound in the Guv is not the best.

And...ahem...thanks for your little digital vs. analog lesson. Wow...to think I've been living in the dark ages. Thanks to you...now I've learned something new

Funny thing is it took me until now to ID this track.

First time hearing this @ club, so I guess you can imagine how happy I was.

you should be more polite when speaking w/others.
I didn't give you a digi vs analog lesson I was simply pointing out something that many people do not know. And it's not the dark ages honey since 90%+ of the places you go have analog sound FYI I don't need to know where you go to tell you this as you can count the clubs in Canada that have digi and not pass 10.

The guv is an aquired taste but to say the sound is crap is moreso an uneducated opinion. Many aisde from you said they don't like it, not that it's a bad sound system.

next time please come with less attitude it'll make you more attractive.
